If you love fantasy fiction and dragons in particular, then this is probably a book that the reader could get into. I personally don't care for fantasy. Thanks for your review! Nice job!

Sci-fi/fantasy genre doesn't appeal to me. It sounds like a good book for anyone who likes reading about shapeshifters and dragons with an added bonus of overcoming white supremacy. Great review!

Generally, I do not go after these type of books, but this one seems like something I may enjoy. With its realistic characters and out of the ordinary plot, I think this also explores topic of social stereotyping. I would like to read this. Thanks for the lovely review.

Ever_Reading wrote: 25 Sep 2018, 00:22 It would be great to finally reach a point where characters of colour can be represented in fiction without the inclusion of white supremacy, slavery and related forms of discrimination. Nonetheless, this sounds like a good read. I might just check it out. Thanks for the review!
This was my reaction as well. The subjugation of Pip- however much Pip overcomes it- sounds rather intense (although I believe it is sadly rooted in some real world history). Not that those elements shouldn’t be present in any fiction, but it’s annoyingly hard to find characters of color with storylines that aren’t centered around it.

Additionally, I am struck by the similarity of aspects of the summary of this book and the objections raised to Amelie Wen Zhao’s Blood Heir, resulting in her choosing to delay its publication. (Specifically I’m thinking of enslaved peoples being magical and powerful and that being related to their subjugation.) Having not yet read either book, however, I can’t really weigh in in a meaningful or educated way.

I rarely pick up fantasy books and so I probably won’t be picking up this one. At minimum tho it sounds very interesting and I appreciate the thoughtful review here.

Seems like an excellent choice for me! Dragons, shapeshifters, fantasy world, but more importantly I am enticed by social problems component. It raises book above some shallow plots and shows that good person, no matter what he was forced to endure, is able keep goodness in core.

A human that can transform into a dragon? That's cool! It's good to know that even with the abuse, Pip was able to keep her good-natured personality. Not many can do that. I added it to my to-read list!

The beautiful lady, who makes the transition from a human being to a dragon could be entertaining to readers who love themes discussing the animal kingdoms. Secchia's works mostly reveal the talents and capabilities of dragons.

Fantasy is one of my favorite genres! I like that this book steers away from a cliché and becomes something interesting and unique. I also appreciate that the protagonist is a woman of color. While I am not a minority, I feel that minorities are so underrepresented, especially in the science fiction and fantasy genres. I hope that the main character turns out to be a good strong character. I am looking forward to checking this out!

I love dragon stories! I finish reading them in the shortest time possible. Therefore, I'll wait for a second book before I start reading this one. I just hope this is a good novel.

This book sounds just like something that I would just pull off a shelf and start reading. It sounds wonderful to me, I just love fantacy stories. The idea of a person turning into a dragon would be a wish come true. Also if the author is really as good as the reviewer says than I can not wait to meet all the characters.

I think the fact that you were able to develop feelings for the characters does indeed reflect on the author's character development skills. Great review.

Not a fan of dragon stories so I’ll pass but the shapeshifters makes for a good storyline for the right audience!

Although there seem to a lot of dragon books in the field of fantasy, this appears to be a different type of book. It approaches the subject from a different angle of racial oppression and prejudice. The review certainly makes the writing sound fresh and appealing and the characters memorable. This sounds like an entertaining book to read and not the normal stereotype fantasy set in a strange world with dragons. A good review of what sounds like an interesting and entertaining book.
