Amanda, a seventeen-year-old girl, visits her grandparents for a summer vacation. There, she is sent to another world called Emaji by her grandmother. She learns that the fate of Emaji lies in her hands. She learns that the people have waited for years, for her arrival. She also realizes that her destiny has chosen a husband for her. Solomon, a winged sturdy warrior of Emaji, has waited patiently and sincerely for the arrival of his prophesied wife. He knows in his heart that “The Sparrow” will come and he will find peace with her. Leah, the apprentice of Zorn and former love interest of Solomon, is determined to kill Amanda. Can Amanda realize her destiny as “The Sparrow”? Will she be able to defeat the undefeatable Zorn and save Emaji? Will she be able to love Solomon after her bitter past? The enchanting young adult novel, Emaji Nation: The Sparrow by Denna M. Davis, set in the magical world of Emaji, is a captivating book.
First of all, I would like to mention that I am head over heels in love with the character of Solomon. There is nothing to hate about him. He is patient, collected, humble, kind, loving, strong, and handsome. Also, he spends half of his time half naked. He is also protective and caring. I think girls must be ready to lose their hearts over him. Somehow, he reminds me of Four from Divergent series.
The character of Amanda was very relatable. She is portrayed as a strong-willed girl. She knows her limits and acts accordingly. I really adored the love between Amanda and Solomon. Young adult novels have a way of making the romance seem cheesy. But, this novel did not have that flaw. The romance was casual and was an integral part of the story. It was funny how Grandma Rose kept interrupting them at crucial timing.
To be honest, I was scared by Zorn and Rasha. The cruelty and heartlessness were frightening. Also, the world of Emaji was mesmerizing. The importance given to the details of their world amazes me. This fictional world will definitely impress the readers.
I loved several aspects of the book. The author did an amazing job with the choice of scenery and the development of characters. This book should be a must read if you relish fantasy stories. It has action, mystery, suspense, romance and magic. The book is targeted at young adults but is not so immature that adults would be bored by it. I found myself not wanting to put it down and finished it in one day. There are twists and turns to keep you guessing and the storyline ties together very well.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I loved everything about this book. The story has everything a perfect young adult book should have -coming of age dilemma, budding romance, exciting adventure, heartwarming moments and crazy cliff hanger. From the striking cover art to the thrilling ending, I enjoyed every moment of this charming read. The book was well-written and carefully edited. I would like to recommend this book to the fans of The Hunger Games trilogy, Narnia series, Harry Potter series, Shadow Hunters series, and Immortals series. Emaji Nation: The Sparrow is not similar to those books, but will be enjoyable nonetheless.
