One of my FAVORITE series. Discuss anything to do with SOT!

I enjoy the SOT series, too. Is the new book that's set in the SOT world but not part of the series any good? I added it to my Kindle wish list, but I haven't felt compelled to buy it like I would have had it been a SOT novel.

My favorite series I have ever read! So much detail and intricate plots that leave you guessing til the end of each book and then some! One of the first Science Fiction series I read and I haven't found anything that compares, it was simply amazing.

@ Jimrada, I assume you're referring to The Law of Nines. Yes, it's worth a read in my opinion. I was slightly uncomfortable with the fact it wasn't a part of the SOT series, but I wasn't dissapointed. I was just a tad frustrated the book wasn't longer but it was worth a few bucks.

Thanks, I was thinking about "The Omen Machine," though. Have you read that one? Is it a good read or do you find yourself missing Richard and Kahlan?

Ah, The Omen Machine. No, I haven't read it regretfully. I had no idea such a book existed to be truthfully honest lol, I've just recently been reintroduced back into the world of books. Was in school for a number of years .

I just wiki'd it, according to Wiki Richard and Kahlan are in this book. As is Nicci and Zedd and all of our favorite characters. The book summary sounds appeasing. According to the summary the events in The Omen Machine take place directly after "Confessor". If I were you I'd definitely give it a shot

Thanks, I was under the impression that it was set in the SOT world but with the story of different characters. I'll definitely get it.

BTW, Mistborn, I like your favorite author and book. Sanderson is definitely one of my favorite writers and despite The Way of Kings being one of the longest books I've ever read, it didn't feel long. I can't wait to see what he does with the next one.

The Way of Kings was incredible. Brandon Sanderson is so dang creative. By far my favorite author. His imagination astounds me lol. Warbreaker, Elantris, Mistborn, The Way of Kings...amazing books, every one of them.

As far as the SoT goes, I loved the books, great reads. Incredible characters, a great world, and truthfully, a very inspirational story. Alot of the lessons learned in SoT can be applied to everyday life. The story dragged on here and there but what great books don't? To be honest though, I wasn't impressed with the ending. It was too fast, not so grand of an ending. But as a whole, I thoroughly enjoyed them all.

I loved the Sword of Truth series until Terry Goodkind decided to channel his hero Ayn Rand and turned the books into his own Fountainhead; every other character existed only to prove Richard/Goodkind and his/their endless monologues right. Which might not be a dealbreaker for everyone, and I'm not saying Objectivism is wrong, but that's the opposite of storytelling and if I wanted to read an essay I'd read one. This change occurred around Book 4 or 5 if I remember right, so Goodkind was probably assuming that he could do whatever he wanted at that point; if people were still reading, they were invested in the characters and story and would stick around to see where they ended up. If true, that feels sleazy to me, to think you don't owe your audience more than that. An author at least has to deliver what he promises, and Goodkind promised an epic fantasy series, not Terry Explains It All in Page Long Paragraphs.

I have to agree with InOnePhrase. This series started out exceedingly well but deteriorated into endless babbling about the nature of good and evil in men's souls yada yada yada...
Between that and the non-stop repitition of the fact that Richard loves Kahlan and Kahlan loves Richard and Richard and Kahlan love each other sometimes it seemed the story was never going to move on. Actually, I'm fairly certain a couple of those books didn't move the story at all. (Although they did point out the fact that Richard is a good guy. Oh, and that Richard loves Kahlan and Kahlan loves Richard and Richard and Kahlan love each other.)
Dear God! Where was his editor? Were the first books so successful that he just said "screw it, write whatever you want"?
I do have to admit that I liked how the story wrapped up although I fear Richar and Kahlan's world must be sickenly sweet about now. Kinda glad I ended up on this side of the wall.

The series had some interesting concepts but it was just painful to read. Constant repetition of descriptions and characters as if we already forgot things from just two chapters ago. Admittingly, I found myself reading all the books, but I was sure glad when I finished.

This is a great series that I read the first one years ago. I never did get past number eight through, life interfered. I'm going to try to read the rest of them sometime in the next few months.

I'm In love with these books. I finished the sword of truth series and have moved on to the Richard and Kahlan books. I can not wait to get to the Nicci chronicles. She is one of my favorite characters.

I know this post is over a decade old, but I just found out about the additional books regarding Richard and Kahlan! SoT is in my top 3 for series, along with Wheel of Time and Hunger Games. I've added these books to my want to read list -- and just in case you ever see this post, thanks for recommending it!
