What captured my attention immediately I opened 30TH CENTURY ESCAPE GENERAL AUDIENCE EDITION BOOK ONE IN THE 3OTH CENTURY TRILOGY by Mark Kingston Levin, PhD, were the thoughts that ran through the main character, Captain Jennifer Hero’s, mind in the prologue. She was on a one-way mission, as a team leader, to go back in time to the 27th century and her first thought was, “This is the moment that decides my fate.” It made me realize that she could have her own agenda while on that mission; one that could possibly endanger the lives of her teammates. Their mission was to go back in time so they could plant a harmless virus that would correct the moral compass of the DNA of the Syndos–genetically modified humans. Then lying to her teammates that the time machine was damaged so she wouldn’t go back in time with them on that mission got me curious.
In the following chapters, Jennifer gets rescued by Professor Marty and his team. She struggles with understanding the difference in culture and body systems with humans living in the 21st century. She finds out that their way of life is backward and different from what she is used to. Her growing friendship with the other teammates, especially Alice; her feelings for Professor Marty and how she tried to understand the relationship in a different time was interesting to read.
What I liked most about the book is how the author captures the attention of the readers by using descriptions that make the book feel like it is a movie; the naming of each chapter gave the book more spice and made it more intriguing. I also loved each character build-up and story structure. It made the book an easy and interesting read because I could relate with the characters and because of its fluidity.
What I didn’t like about the book was how quickly Captain Jennifer regained her voice after she had said she couldn’t speak. And the reason is that I was expecting that she would keep up the charade for a longer period than she did.
Also, this book was professionally edited as I saw no errors in it. I would rate this book a 4 out of 4 stars because it met every expectation I had: suspense, great character build up, and amazing plot. I recommend this book to anyone who loves reading Sci-Fi and Fantasy. This book will definitely be an amazing read for you.
