The contrast and imagery of a helicopter on the cover of Chrome Mountain by Ben Schneider are eye-catching and provide a perfect description for this book. It is a fast-paced adventure from the get-go. The first scene in the book features Sonya McCall sitting at a stoplight on her Harley. When the every-day scene suddenly turns to action and gunplay, it’s evident that this book is not going to bore the reader! Almost before you are acquainted with one of the main characters, you find yourself cheering her on. Sonya’s decision to escape from the gang is best, and she begins her life anew with a few unexpected turns along the way.

Trey Radisson is a talented inventor, but he fears what the world could do with his invention of a cloaking device. Second thoughts about revealing it to the company he works for trigger a chain of events that change his life forever. Specific organizations are seeking his technology, however, and before long he finds himself fleeing hostile helicopter gun-ships.

Trey’s rescue from this situation by a dark-haired woman with a Harley is well-timed and entirely by chance. They part ways, only to be thrown together again shortly afterward and taken captive by the Chrome Falcon Group. The twists and turns of this story keep the reader riveted to the pages. Trey and Sonya become a great team and perform daring escapades that would do justice to any spy thriller.

Character development is superb in this book. I appreciated that the reader experiences the inner thoughts of Sonya as she carefully considers her decisions regarding right and wrong. She’s a lady with a conscience in spite of her rough beginnings. I liked the dialogue between Trey and Sonya whenever they discussed God. Their talks about faith made their characters seem more grounded and added an unexpected depth to the story. At the same time, this book does not push religion, so I don’t believe it will offend any non-religious readers.

Ben Schneider did an excellent job making this story a well-constructed action adventure. I thought it was cool that the Chrome Falcon Command Center (CFCC) had lights hanging from a jagged stone ceiling. It reminded me of the bat cave in the comics. I liked that the underground airport complex was reminiscent of the lairs of villains featured in James Bond -007 stories.

My favorite thing about this book is how it outlines life choices. The thoughts and actions of the rougher characters of the book show that a life of crime doesn’t pay. It also offers better options and guidelines through the choices made by Trey and Sonya.

I couldn’t find anything to dislike about this book, and I think it will appeal to readers who like a text full of action and suspense. Fans of the television series Airwolf will love Chrome Mountain as it is jam-packed with helicopter shoot-outs and air combat scenes. I also recommend this book to young adult readers who enjoy writing that moves fast. Although there is death in it, it is not overly gory or grotesque. I rate Chrome Mountain a solid 4 out of 4 stars. I’d give it more if it were possible. It has a few errors but appears to be professionally edited.
