The Sparrow, by Denna M. Davis, is the first book in the Emaji Nation series. It features the good people of a fictional land (Emaji) and how their world is to be saved by The Sparrow.

Imagine waking up one day to receive the message that you were the prophesied savior of a strange planet. Most of us would be too shocked to even do anything. That was exactly the same reaction that Amanda had upon receiving the news that she was the prophesied Ha'Ankor (The Sparrow) of the Emaji people. She was prophesied to save Emaji from Zorn who is possibly the meanest, most powerful being in Emaji. Furthermore, according to the prophecy she is destined to be married to Solomon, a Shomerakiya. This prophecy is, however, not shoved down her throat as she is given the choice to leave. The only problem is that if she leaves she will have to live with the lifelong guilt of having let an entire civilization down. Offering no help whatsoever is also the fact that she still has a life to live on earth with parents that may not possibly understand the responsibilities their daughter has to Emaji. She has to make tough choices that literally could mean the difference between life and death. Her life and the lives of many people in Emaji are at stake. What will she do? Only Denna M. Davis has the answer in her book, The Sparrow.

The plot of this novel is very intricate and well-woven. The author managed to keep me interested and intrigued throughout the entire read. I always wanted to read more about Amanda and learn whether or not she would accept the prophecy and even fall in love with Solomon.

The narration was very engaging and compelling. All credits have to be given to the author, for creating such wonderful and realistic characters and settings. Emaji was so vividly described that I could visualize this magical place and its citizens. The character development was also done very realistically, and I could relate, sympathize, and root for Amanda and Solomon who were ideally the main characters.

The Sparrow is a truly magnificent read. It had all the hallmarks of a great fictional novel from the creative plot to the beautiful narration and development. It is a book that I have to give the highest possible rating; it deserves a 4 out of 4 stars rating. It was indeed very professionally edited as I came across very few grammatical errors. Science fiction and adventure novel lovers will enjoy this book very much.
