We are Voulhire:The Fires of Virko is the second book in the We are Voulhire series by Mathew Tysz.A series aimed at unwinding stories about a fictional Kingdom of Voulhire and its cities.
Galen Bray, who came from the land of the Princes, has taken over his uncle's firm and is in the process of mastering the art. He's being assisted by Rowan. There is a need for steel, and they are in need of its supplier. After the massacre of the Lord of Hillport, they have to figure out another way of obtaining these raw materials.Galen, Rowan and Demetrius (a monk) , decide to move to Virko to obtain these materials.
Lord Venden Hrelek is the founder and the Lord of Virko, a very successful city in Voulhire. He's very sick (or rather in his deathbed) and doesn't trust his son, Hans Hrelek, with the city.He has decided that Virko will nolonger be headed by a Lord, but by a captain appointed by the king. But Hans has his own plans, with assistance from some dark spirits. What will happen to the great city of Virko?
Some of the major themes in this book include magic, governance and rebellion/betrayal. Mathew Tysz uses his high imaginations to creat a Kingdom with several cities, each managed with lords. The events at the whole kingdom, especially considering that magic controls a sizable number of events, are both exciting and frightening. Religion is also growing and, surprisingly, magic and religion is getting blended! Things are getting thick and unpredictable. Although this book can be read independently, I recommend that one should read from the first book so as to get the most out of the whole series.
What I liked most about this book is it's storyline. To be specific, the story of Galen. Mathew Tysz amazingly comes up with a flawless character whose childhood events had made him strong and prepared him for a great task. The trio, Galen, Rowan and Demetrius, have a great sense of humor. Reading their story makes one feel involved and alive with them.
Although I found some few errors, they didn't affect my reading. They were minor errors Wich can be easily eliminated by a single round of editing. So basically, there was nothing I didn't like about the book.
The bottom line is, this is a very nice book which will be appealing to any sci-fi and fantasy lover. For that reason, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars . I recommend it to anyone who loves fantasy novels. Teens can also read it since I didn't notice any adult content.

Thanks so much for your comment, however, this book can be read and understood independently, though you won't get all the pleasure. Thanks for stopping by.
