We are Voulhire : The Fires of Virko by Matthew Tzsy is the second book of the series We are Voulhire. We pick up from where we left the protagonists, as well as advancing on the plot and tying some loose ends that were left at the end of the previous novel. Beware: this review contains spoilers of the first book We are Voulhire : A new Arrival Under Great Skies!

In this sequel, the plot expands with a wider range of characters and a new series of events. The first book ended with the dangerous mage Meldorath coming back to Hillport , spreading chaos and death on his path. Now, we continue to follow one of the protagonists, Galen. He is still the only one who is written in the 1st person, and I believe this foreshadows his importance in the story. The novel becomes more complex in the sense that there is a wider pool of characters and more elements added to thicken the plotline. While Galen and his group of friends guide us in their own little investigation, we also get to observe the actions of the good and bad guys and this helps the audience form their own hypotheses.

Again, like the first novel, I loved reading We are Voulhire: The Fires of Virko! The plot is full of suspense and I think it unravels not too quickly but it doesn’t keep us waiting for answers or explanations for an eternity, which I personally find very hard to do. The writing style is still very comprehensive and pleasant, the vocabulary is complex but enhances the experience the story sets for the readers. In this sequel, the author has included more violent action and gory which I love.

Similarly to We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies, this book is professionally edited with very few mistakes. I give it a 4 out of 4 stars because it continues well the story and has a good renewal of the plotline and action. This book is more likely going to appeal to fantasy readers because they will definitely be amazed by the world Matthew Tzsy has created for them.

In conclusion, if you are seeking a good book with an original and complex imaginary world this story is it. It is filled with action and tension, all of it written in an attention-grabbing manner. I highly recommend reading the first book before starting this one. Personally, I can't wait to read the third one!
