We Are Voulhire: The Fires of Virko is the second novel of Matthew Tysz’s thrilling sequence. This novel continues the storyline of the first part and contributes to the arising of suspense. It was a real pleasure for me to read it.

The adventures of the main characters, Demetrius, Galen, and Rowan, continue. They visit the mysterious town of Virko. It turns out that this is actually the town where Demetrius was born. However, Demetrius does not feel comfortable in his birthplace. The three characters have to fight with some uncontrollable evil powers during their stay at the town. They do not know who they can trust. Galen, Demetrius, and Rowan visit Rendenhile mansion which turns out to be a mysterious place in whose undercroft resides a demon. The readers can find out for themselves whether the three comrades manage to cope with this demon.

Characters like Folcro and Kayden also play a leading role in this second novel. They both behave quite suspiciously. The novel reveals that they share a common past, which has left its mark on the lives of them both. Kayden has to pay a high cost for the mistakes of his past. On the other hand, Folcro is deprived of humanity. He punishes his enemies in a sadistic way. Moreover, he risks the lives of innocent people in order to achieve his ambitious goals. His character proves that human cruelty can be limitless.

Meldorath, the powerful mage, also plays a significant role in the second novel. His character remains covered in mystery, but he contributes to increasing the feeling of suspense. This novel also consists of numerous imaginary creatures which make the storyline even more thrilling.

My favorite parts of the novel are those which present the development of Galen’s character. He gradually gains confidence. Galen becomes more sensible and loses his naivety. He also demonstrates impressing courage and readiness to sacrifice his own life in the name of his friends. There is not even a single page of the book which I do not like.

I rate We Are Voulhire: The Fires of Virko 4 out of 4 stars. This novel absolutely corresponded to my expectations. I think that it is a good choice for all lovers of fantasy novels. However, if a person prefers a more realistic read, he/she should choose another type of novel. The novel is professionally edited, and I did not notice any typos.
