We are Voulhire: The Fires of Virko is a wonderful follow up to the first book in the series. Written by Matthew Tysz, the story explains the city of Virko and all of its happenings. In the first book, the readers learned about Magnum Caelum, more so than any of the other cities. In the second installment, while focusing on Virko, Tysz unfolds the truths about the city and its future leader. There is also a closer look into Yaman Soul, the city of faith. Things are tense in Voulhire since the massacre in Hillport, and they just seem to get worse. While traveling through the town, Galen and his friends uncover a truth about Virko and its lord. The question is whether they should warn the city's residents or just leave the situation be.

Characters mentioned in the previous story such as Galen Bray, King Wilhelm, Meldorath, and Rowan are still around. However, I was also introduced to new personas namely Folcro and Lord Kayden. The recently added characters are well written and I found myself drawn to them, constantly interested in their backstories and what drives them. Folcro, or sometimes know as Hans, was a weird fellow with a dark side. Lord Kayden was an overall pleasant man, but he had his secrets as well. All of the characters were perfectly described and each personality complemented the other.

Tysz does just as an amazing job in the sequel as he does in the first book. The story flowed so well, every page was enticing and had just the right amount of humor. It was lovely to get to know this place named Voulhire even more. The book really hits all the aspects you would want in a sci-fi tale. Action, suspense, humor, and conflict are all found within the story. The only part I disliked about the book was that it did not take off right where it ended in the previous book. However, later on in the book, I did find out everything I wanted to. I personally would just have preferred to read exactly what happened at the end of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies at the beginning of the sequel.

Overall, We are Voulhire: The Fires of Virko was an amazing story. The developed characters and beautiful writing allows me to rate this a 4 out of 4. The editing was impeccable as I found only one grammatical error. There are quite a few uses of foul language and there is the talk of homosexuality. There are not any exotic scenes, but the characters do mention one night stands. A mild torture scene is within the book as well. If these things do not bother you, I would absolutely recommend this book. Although, the story is for lovers of sci-fi, magic, and people who don't mind talking about faith. I would also not suggest this book unless you are above the age of fourteen. I enjoyed this book very much and cannot wait for a third installment.
