Revolving around an exceptional scientist’s who, like many others, has an idol who doesn’t cease to inspire him even after his mysterious disappearance, this book follows him on his huge secret. This secret threatens his job and his life but his normality protects this huge secret from prying eyes and ears that would seek to use this secret for evil. Unexpectedly, a breech where Creatures murder a bunch of humans and seek to kill many more disrupts his normality and forces him into the light. In all of this, somehow, this main character must seek to survive when the odds are always against his favour and preserve his secret. Containment Breach by Wm. A. Yandell was a fantastic read with twists and turns keeping me as a reader constantly aching for more. I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars for its amazing presentation and enticing storyline.

Throughout the duration of the book, the accuracy was fantastic with only one spelling error at page 144: ‘Looking quite the commander, he is in the realm he has always envisioned for himself: the leader of the team.’ Apart from this, all grammar, spelling and punctuation were accurate and the story was very clear to continue to follow. Many writing techniques that continued to grip the reader, mainly dramatic irony, were used very effectively to maintain the interest in how the story would unfold. By introducing strong characters with interesting abilities and motives, the reader is constantly fearful for other characters that had the misfortune to be stuck there.

The pacing of the book was fantastic, bringing to life the story in the readers mind in every detail and the writing was clear to comprehend. By writing in this way and not lingering on any particular scene or event too much, this story felt well paced and the difference between things that happened in quick succession opposed to things that happened slower was clear. Maintaining clarity of which character the perspective was written in was a very impressive manner that added tension to scenes later involving characters unaware of what the reader knows. This repeated theme allowed for the reader to recognise important actions that will affect characters later on and maintain interest. The main character never ceased to surprise me as a reader with his interesting behaviour and perceptive thinking.

Other than the spelling mistake, I counted 8 different instances where profanity was used (pages 144, 180, 283, 288 and 322) but these were understandable uses that only added to the scene rather than taking away from it. My favourite part of the book has to be the interaction between the main character and the main evil character as the dialogue was well-thought out and concise which allowed the characters and conversation to feel more realistic. As fantastic as this book was to read, there is always room to improve other than equally interesting sequels. First of all, setting/ scene descriptions could be more vivid and provide more of an immersive experience. Apart from that, the book was engaging, interesting and very well thought out. After reading this, I will definitely have a new favourite book.

I believe that this book would mostly appeal to fantasy enthusiasts but more so science fiction lovers as this explores a few interesting elements of this genre. My opinion of this book means that I couldn’t rate this any less than 4 out of 4 stars as never ceased to intrigue me throughout.
