Overall this is a science fiction novel well worth reading. The first few chapters are a bit slow but then the interlacing and converging plots gather steam so that it all seems to end too soon. Given the throngs of space opera on the shelves right now it was nice to read a sci fi novel with genuine speculative technical content, but not at the expense of having emotional and even spiritual elements.
