The Hand Bringer by Christopher J. Penington is a science fiction/fantasy novel that centers around vampires and time travel. The timeline starts out in modern-day America then hops over to medieval Romania. It is a novel full of action, intrigue, and romance. The storyline revolves around a modern-day police officer who responds to a disturbance at a residence. The events that unfold at this scene become the precursor to the remainder of the story.

Peter Hadrian is the main character of this book. He is a police officer who is on duty when he responds to a call for assistance at a disturbance. While on scene, he encounters a vampire who calls Peter, Hand Bringer. Peter has no idea why the creature called him that. He is having a hard enough time just processing what he is seeing in front of him. Afterward, Peter and another officer, Luke, are snatched up by a government agency and whisked away to a military base. Peter will soon learn that his journey to this moment began when he was a child. He will also become aware of an imminent modern-day vampire infestation. Peter is told that the only way to stop them is to time-hop back to their beginning and kill the original vampires. A journey begins with Peter and a handful of people.

Penington has written a novel that is guaranteed to satisfy even the pickiest of readers. If you love science fiction/fantasy and vampires, you are in for a real treat. Penington has incorporated Dracula (the man, the myth, the legend) into this book. And, he takes you back in time to medieval Romania when Dracula lived, fought, and conquered. Penington added several twists and turns in his novel. There are several characters you think you know, however, by the end of the book, they are not what they seemed. Penington’s writing style is fast-paced and action-oriented with quite a bit of detail.

I give this book a 4 out of 4 stars rating. It has been professionally edited. The storyline flowed well for me. The novel held my interest from start to finish. The first few pages were an excellent opening to the story. I was hooked by the second chapter. I enjoyed the rich history of medieval times. It was really quite clever how Penington was able to put modern people in ancient times and make it believable. I was pleasantly surprised by the way the book ended.

I would recommend this book to adults only. There is graphic violence, sexual situations, and profanity.
