Official Review: The Tale of Emerys Treasure

Post by sivienna »

[Following is the official OnlineBookClub.org review of "The Tale of Emerys Treasure" by Cliffie Coates.]

If you like a story about an old family with a secret should keep hidden, if you like a story about love beyond reality, if you like a story about unique abilities and poisons, you will love The Tale of Emerys Treasure by Cliffie Coates.

Losten Deforest moved to Norfolk 6 months ago, leaving his opportunity for attending Cal Tech. Later he meets Emerys Treasure, a girl with long blonde hair and girl with blue eyes, whose old fashioned mannerism makes him wonder.

The story goes pretty slow at the first few chapters, but things are getting more interesting when Losten met Emerys’ cousin, Justin, in It’s Not Prom Party. Justin was being reckless by saying some illogical things about Emerys’ family. Luckily, Losten was not quite aware about them.

A few days later, Losten and Emerys were walking down a dock for some ice creams. Not very long until Emerys smelled gasoline and a man threw his cigarette onto the dock. The gasoline pumps exploded. The force threw them into the river. Losten lost conscious. When he was able to gain half of his consciousness, he found Emerys lay beside him. He saw something shocking. Emerys is not a person who he thought she was.

Revealed Emerys’ secret, Losten had to deal with Emerys’ family. Emerys’ family invited him for a dinner. There are some funny awkward moments when Losten met Emerys’ family for the first time. Here he met all family member of Treasure Family, including Crystellen, one of Emerys’ sisters. Crystellen’s overprotective trait really gives Losten some near-death experiences.

I think the author wants this book to be a romantic story with some action scenes, because he mentioned a family clan whom Treasure family is aware of. However, there is not a single enemy shown up in this book. All the action scenes occur because of accidents. This is a minus point for the book. I think it would have been better-even if it’s minor-an enemy should exist. It will deepen the reason why Treasure family had their secret hidden.

This is a quite interesting story, although I must say this is not one of my favorites. I like it when the author reveals the secrets one by one. Also, I like Crystellen’s characters which keep her generous heart and bright brain behind her rebellious acts.

Overall, I give this book 3 out of 4 star rating, and I hope the sequel will be better.
