[Following is the official OnlineBookClub.org review of "Crossbred" by Nadene Seiters.]
I was finding this book difficult to review as it isn’t really the sort of genre I read or enjoy. It also seemed to be aimed more at the young Adult group, which became quite apparent as I progress through the book.
It centre around three main characters. A female genetically modified human, George a vampire and Jack a werewolf. It is about a typical love triangle done as a paranormal romance.
If you like paranormal romance then you may enjoy this book.
A97 is a genetically modified human who is a hybridisation of three different species has part of an experiment for the Vampire council. She has been kept captive on a submarine out at sea and has only lived for six weeks but she matures quickly. She is called a feeder and is able to feed vampires from her blood. She seems to consume whatever she can get her hands on from the smallest mammal to humans, vampire and werewolf.
George is vampire who snacks on human beings he decides to go out to sea to his boat too dump his prey in the sea also he wants to avoid siring new vampires because he is going through something called the rut. When at sea he spots the submarine with humans on top getting some fresh air he loses control to his hunger. It is at this time he discovers A97 and they go on the run from the Vampire council and the human police. The story continues with the later encounter of Jack who is a werewolf who is said to be a lone Alpha male. He is not a leader of a pack so he decides to leave his adopted pack and go for some unfathomable reason to find new clothes as he does so he picks up the scent of A97.
Some of the plot was strange especial the constant obsession with clothes. How many clothes could a person on the run really need? I could get why in some parts of the story they would need a change of clothes.
Also in some parts of the plot the author forgets to tell you how a certain person gets from one place or thing to another, the story was also lacking consistency one minute A97 is a killing machine next she is a homemaker.
The way the author disposed of one of the character which had been a constant companion and also had chemistry with A97 was a bit of a let-down and could have been expanded for a more exciting and satisfying plot.
I gave it 3 out of 4 stars. I didn’t dislike the book the author had some interesting action scene even though they were sporadic. Some of the later chapters were a bit tedious and could have been shorter.
The ending was quite disappointing for me personnel nevertheless if you like paranormal romance books you may somewhat enjoy this book.
