Re-start the World is a sci-fi/fantasy novel written by Kenneth J. Hayes. It’s a book that tells the story of some bright and wealthy scientists discovering a one-way passage to the 18th century, 1721 precisely. It's a story of diverse characters facing various challenges as they embark on a future-changing adventure. It’s a great book with well-mixed genres of science fiction, historical fiction, and adventure. Hayes takes readers on a smooth journey with this 280-page book.

Having discovered the one-way gateway to the 18th century through an imaging machine designed to take X-ray, CT scans, and therapy treatments simultaneously, the wealthy scientists, which include three Doctors: Dr. Eugene, Dr. Sid, and Dr. Kelly, team up with Ron Maddoxx and Jack's father, who are brothers. They decide to go back in time to use their imaging machine to repair the past for the purpose of building shipping companies and orphanages with advanced technology. The protagonist, Jack Maddoxx, volunteers to take the one-way ticket back to 18th century England. Jack's cousin, Jesse Maddoxx, joins him and they bring enough gold, technology, and equipment enough to start up a new country. Jack and Jesse soon team up with locals and freemasons to challenge Cyrus and Ceya, the heirs of the Dark Angel.

Re-start the World creates a vivid imagination of what going back in time feels like. I was pulled into this story instantly. Hayes writes with great enthusiasm and possesses the ability to take readers on an imaginative journey. He incorporates modern-day artificial intelligence into the story as a god-like creature, Allaxe, which took the appearance of a book initially before transforming into a Chinese man. Every time Allaxe is mentioned, all I think of is Alexa, the virtual assistant AI developed by Amazon. Besides the fact that both names are pronounced the same way, their functions are quite similar; this helped me connect better with the book.

Hayes did an excellent job of developing the plot and characters in Re-start the World. The characters were relatable and figured in many exciting scenes. There were gun battles like that from the comedy film A Million Ways to Die in the West, shipbuilding, development of cars for racing, gold mining, and the extraction of hemp oil to replace crude oil. I would have loved to see some illustrations of the cars developed and the equipment used to extract the hemp oil somewhere in the book. However, the author's words explained the process of each creation vividly. My favorite character is Christine; she easily understands sarcasm and gives out the same without hassle.

Unfortunately, I found a few low points in this story. Hayes didn't develop interactions between some characters well enough. Also, there were typographical and punctuation errors in this book, but they weren't enough to stop me from enjoying the thrilling story. I also didn't like how the author infused religious themes into this book when talking about Cyrus, Ceya, and Allaxe. However, there were relatable themes like family, love, and adventure in the story.

Because of the flaws mentioned, I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. I won’t recommend it to readers below 18 as it contains profane words. Readers who like reading about old England and adventure will enjoy Re-start the World.

Despite the shortcomings you mentioned, a time travel novel where the protagonists aim to change history is intriguing and makes me want to read it to see how it goes. Thank you for your review!

This story sounds really interesting. I dont mind sci fi and I love history so I think id really enjoy this book.
