Metaphase: Beauty in the Chaos by Mitchel Street is the second book of the three book series Mitosis.

The world is divided into two realms made up of Infants (third dimensionals) and Matures (fourth dimensionals). Matures are able to shapeshift from humans into majestic, magical creatures. Vampacoti are large cats (cougars, sabertooth tigers, etc.). Avians are large birds (owls, falcons, and hawks). Equuians are large horses. Cetacites are whales. Canites are large wolves. Some Matures are able to create portals between the dimensions and between locations within the dimensions. Some Matures create and work with a special kind of technology. Everything is infused with an energetic light that is easy for a Mature to see, feel and use to enhance their individual powers.

Piper grew up in the third dimension for the first eighteen years of her life, never knowing that she was actually born a Guardian princess of the fourth dimension. Her mother had sent her to live among the Infants to protect her from her older brother Eli, an evil dictator on the edge of madness. In the first book, Eli learned of Piper's existence and set out to destroy her to ensure his reign. In this book, Piper and her protectors are searching for the three elements needed to create a pendant that would shield her from detection. All the while they are being hunted by Eli's followers.

The narrative was well-written and will leave the reader wondering about the reality of the fourth dimension and the Matures. The author did a great job of filling in enough of the background from book one that I never felt confused or lost. The amount of background detail was just enough to carry the story forward, yet each time the previous book was referenced I felt a desire to start at the beginning of the series to get more in-depth details. The end of the book wrapped up most of the loose ends created as the story progressed, except for the few major threads that left me wanting to continue to the third book.

There was no profanity, graphic violence, or explicit sexual scenes. There was plenty of action and suspense, combined with magic and mystery, with an undercurrent of a timeless love that does not overwhelm the story, but may be the force that helps to save the world across all dimensions. The errors were mostly missing or misspelled words. None of which distracted from the enjoyment of the read and would possibly been missed had I not been looking for them.

I give this book a rating of 4 out of 4 stars. The whole concept of what the fourth dimension might be like had me mesmerized from the first page. There was nothing that I did not like about it. I would recommend this book to lovers of fantasy and magic. The author has a flair for the descriptive. Prepare to be swept away to a world of beauty and splendor where anything is possible and everything is filled with light and magic.

I love the shape the story took. It's a tale of self discovery and coming to terms with purpose. I'm check it out.

This sounds like a straight up awesome book! Might give it a try. I like how the author managed to fill in the blanks for new readers that may not have read the first book.

Wow! Sounds like you really enjoyed the book. Matures and infants, interesting naming there. I'm not much for fantasy, but I might just give it a try.

Oh wow, this sounds like a great read! A futuristic world of shape-shifters, a lost princess, a race against time to save the universe from an evil dictator... The makings of a book I tend to like for sure. Adding to my to-read list! Thanks for the review.

Wow, this book sounds like something completely out of this world! From your review, I could tell that the author added enough detailed descriptions that it wasn't hard to imagine the story. Great job on your review! I would love to read this book as well.

This is an amazing adventure fantasy novel on self-discovery, heroism, purpose, justice, magic, friendship, and family. It is free on Kindle Unlimited and has a masterfully written OnlineBookClub review. I rated the book 4 out of 4 stars. Congrats @Mitchel_Street on the BOTD.

This book seems interesting but a little confusing. It may be the complexity of the different dimensions or the different species used in the book. I also haven't read the first, so I'm probably lacking a large portion of the back story. So I'm going to pass on this book and try to read the first before attempting to understand everything.

The novel sounds very interesting. I love the high fantasy world described in it. I think the reviewer did a great job in giving an overall summary of the book because I've certainly been convinced to try and read it for myself.

I wonder if life is drastically different depending on which dimension the beings are in. It sounds like the author has done a great job of world-building, and although this isn't something I would typically read, I am tempted to give this one a try. Thanks for the enthralling review!
