[Following is a volunteer review of "The Hand Bringer" by Christopher J. Penington.]
The Hand Bringer is an amazing science-fiction novel by Christopher J. Penington. The novel is action-packed and thrilling. It exceeded my expectations, and I had a great time reading it.
The Hand Bringer starts like a typical thriller. The main character, Peter Hadrian, is a policeman. His wife has been mysteriously killed, while his son has disappeared. Peter is absolutely alone in the world and indulges in alcohol. He is involved in a mission that almost costs his life. Peter is seriously wounded and is taken to an ASA laboratory. There, he finds out that he has faced something more dangerous than an ordinary crime. Besides, Peter turns out to have a special element in his blood that makes him immune to infection with vampirism. Last but not least, he demonstrates impressive strength. All this turns Peter into a perfect weapon.
Peter and one of his colleagues, Luke, travel back in time to find Dracula and kill him. Together with several other allies, they are involved in a world of extraordinary phenomena. This adventure is a challenge that reveals Peter’s skills. He turns out to be among the few chosen people that can face an ancient vampire and remain unaffected by his power. This travel back in time not only helps Peter gain self-confidence, but it also returns his desire to live. Peter’s life gets a new meaning. He finds real love in the face of Boriana. Their relationship is a very complicated one, and Boriana even tries to kill Peter as an act of revenge. Their love affair is not the central theme of the novel, but it has its contribution to making the book so interesting.
My favorite parts of the novel are those that present Peter’s battles against the vampires. He turns out to be a strategist that masters the art of war. Although he first becomes Dracula’s ally, Peter is soon repelled by Dracula’s selfishness, cruelty, and treacherous nature. There is not anything about the book that I did not like. I enjoyed reading every single page of it.
I rate the novel 4 out of 4 stars, as it is a really amazing read. It is a suitable choice for people of all ages. It seems that both teenagers and adults can enjoy the world of magic and dangers it reveals. However, I think that the novel is not a good choice for those that prefer more realistic types of books. The novel is professionally edited, and I did not notice any typos.
