Official Review: Chronomancer and the Time God Book 1
Death of a Paradise is book one of the Chronomancer and the Time God series written by James J Meadows III. This adventure fantasy novel takes place in the land of Zarethea. Although the gods have long since disappeared as the God Wars ended, their overzealous acolytes are still at odds with each other. Aleister, a member of the godless magic wielding race known as the Mystasians, is set on a mission to destroy the pieces of Raul, the time god and maker of the universe, to prevent his return which would plunge Zarethea back into a time of destruction and war. Joining him are three followers of different gods with vastly differing ideologies. Aleister, who is not known for his kindness or his ability to work well in a team, must become the leader of the ragtag group as they go up against monsters and other mystic forces that attempt to bring their quest to an early end.
Overall, I would give Chornomancer and the Time God Book One 3 out of 4 stars. This book was a terrific read and I struggled to put it down. I desperately wanted to give the book 4 stars, but due to some errors in editing I could not. Every time I came across an error it pained me to record it because the book was so well written. None of the errors were egregious, most involving a missing letter or a swapped letter that correctly spelled the wrong word, but nonetheless, they were there.
Aside from these mistakes, I had no issues with the book. Meadows did a beautiful job of creating an interesting fantasy world and inhabiting it with diverse characters. The four main characters of the novel had great individual personalities and all of them developed nicely throughout the story.
I really can’t find anything wrong with the story, it was exciting, action packed, full of magic and hand to hand combat, everything necessary for the perfect fantasy novel. There was no foul language and aside from a scene where “loud female moans” can be heard from behind a closed door, there was nothing overly sexual in the story. Although there are many scenes with violence and injury, I think this would be appropriate for all except, perhaps, extremely young readers.
If you are looking for a new fantasy series chock-full of action and suspense, I would strongly recommend you download a copy of Chronomancer and the Time God Book One. Just make sure you have some free time first, because if you are anything like me you won’t be able to set this down until it is finished. This is just a fantastic book from James J Meadows III. I can’t wait to see what surprises the rest of the series holds.
