The Hand Bringer is a story of Peter Hadrian, a smart and brilliant cop from Dallas. He is leading a normal life with his wife and son. One day his wife is murdered and his seven year old son, Stephen goes missing. Peter's world comes crashing with this incident, and he is willing to go to any extent to bring his son back. This leads him to time travel to the fifteenth century.

The story begins with Peter Hadrian being airlifted by some military personnel to treat his injuries caused in an encounter with strange men. These personnel work for an organization called the ASA, which comprises scientists and doctors, who are working on a clandestine mission. Peter is accompanied by his friend Luke, to look after him in the ASA headquarters.

The doctors and scientists working on this mission, are interested in Peter because of his Romanian heritage. He is smart and intelligent with an IQ testing of 150, recorded during his childhood. The scientists take Peter to a test chamber and inject him with an antiviral serum, which they hope will work against the vampire world.Peter acquires the strength of more than twenty one men, and bones that are impossible to break. He is genetically altered and transformed in to a super being.
Doctor Kolemis reveals the objectives of the mission. Peter is expected to go to Romania and destroy the vampires by killing their chief Vlad Dracula and also to be the donor, which would help with the first objective of the mission.

The ASA headquarter has designed a portal which leads to the medieval times. It opens unexpectedly and forces Peter Hadrian,Luke,Doctor Kolemis,Scott and Bat to jump in and time travel to distant ages and a new land. All of them land with an unexpected thud in a strange land named Transylvania. As they try to adjust to their new surroundings, they are confronted by the natives called the Wallachians. They are taken captive by Wallachians and led to their chief Count Sergumir of Surgescu.
Peter and his team introduce themselves as Christian Knights from England who got robbed in Malta. Peter explains that they have come to destroy Vlad Dracula and his army of vampire. Sergumir strikes a deal with them. The Count agrees to help them in their mission, only if they join his men and Dracula's army to battle the Turks.

The Count Sergumir promises Peter to take them to an old man named Ioan of Blind, who has all the information about the vampire world. Peter and his team along with the Sergumir's army wage a battle against the Turks. They manage to give a tough fight. Vlad Dracula is impressed by Peter's strength and courage, and asks him to be his guest. Dracula wants to test Peter's loyalty and sends him to the castle of Fagaras, to meet the disturbing challenges taking place there. He sends Boravic one of his knights to accompany Peter and his men to Fagaras. Lord Mihail of Faragas welcomes them and tells about the ongoing vampire activity in his state.

It is here, that Peter meets Boriana and prevents her from ending her life. Boriana gets smitten by Peter's suave looks and Peter gets attracted to her striking beauty. He later pursues and marries her. The vampires become active and begin attacking every now and then. Peter and his men are able to destroy most of them. Some of the vampires are able to escape and infect others by biting. As a result, an army of these creatures rise up and launch a counter attack. Some of Peter's men are also attacked and killed. Peter continues to fight the vampires with true grit of a valiant soldier. Peter kills Vlad Dracula and his wife Deycheaba. He is victorious in the end. This triumph brings Peter's hopes alive to meet his missing son. He goes back through the portal into the twenty first century to resume his earlier life.

The author Christopher J. Penington has written an interesting science fiction, which has a historical set up. The author has very well described the vampire world which existed in the medieval times. It is written flawlessly with enriching words. The vivid description of Europe in the fifteenth century, its people, their lifestyle, food and attire, leaves the readers spell bound. The story has an interesting science content which fascinates the science amateurs. Some scientific terms like 'virus','antibodies','seenjites' and 'genetics' generates curiosity to read further.

I would give a rating of 4 out of 4 to this book. The book is entertaining and engaging. It is a good read for those who are looking for some scientific adventure ,with an exciting and dangerous time travel to the vampire world.
