Has anyone else here read this trilogy of books? I've been re-reading them for the first time in about 10 years and I really enjoyed them, almost as much as I did when I originally read them, and I would certainly recommend them to anyone who loves fantasy novels such as I do. The story of Drizzt Do'Urden is a classic one and this combined with the Icewindale Trilogy make for some remarkable stories by Salvatore, it's easy to see why these books are so well loved by the reading community.
What are your thoughts and experiences with the Dark Elf Trilogy?

I liked the trilogy. However, I find the latter books of Salvatore kind of destroy the feeling of the characters and what was achieved with the original three books.
But yeah, this three first are good enough, they greatly portray the Drows and make a good setting out of Menzoberranzan. I don't particularly like the books of the Forgotten Realms, but these are among the few exceptions.

I enjoyed The Dark Elf Trilogy and the Icewindale Trilogy quite a bit but anything beyond that I didn't bother to read because I felt like the character would have been stretched too thin and become overused for the sake of making money off of the Drizzt name. The 6 books within those two trilogy's are more than enough Drizzt to keep the character in my heart forever.

I read a huge amount of RA Salvatore as a kid. Looking back, I feel like he got tired of writing them at some point and kind of got lazy, and given the amount of Drizzt books, I totally get that. But I probably would have stopped reading earlier. Some of the plotlines were overwrought and melodramatic in the later series'.

Most of the Drizzt books are amazing. There were a few in the series that went a little slow and seemed like lazy writing on Salvatore's behalf, but with the release of the new book of a new Drizzt series "The Companions" he has redeemed himself and is going about the story in a completely different way.

I have to agree with post #1, I liked all of The Dark Elf Trilogy. Every time Drizzt had a sward fight I was right there with him. I loved the friendship and love he had for his companions. R.A. Salvatore is another great author.
