The Cellar: A Post-Apocalyptic Novella, by Richard Dela Cruz, is a science fiction fantasy story about a boy, his town, and a mysterious cloaked figure.

The story starts out with a 17 year old boy named Daren. He is out hunting rats to feed his starving village. Disappointed with his catch, he heads back to the village. On his way, he sees a mysterious cloaked figure that is glowing with a green light. Frightened, he runs to the village, but does not tell anyone. Later that night, him and his friend notice the shadowy figure by the edge of the woods.

As legend goes, this shadowy figure can be none other than the Angel of Death coming to announce the world's end. The next morning, Daren goes to where he saw the Angel of Death. He notices something shiny on the ground. It is a can of beans. Where did these beans come from? Did the Angel of Death leave it? Does the village's hunger problem lay with this shadowy figure?

The Cellar: A Post-Apocalyptic Novella, by Richard Dela Cruz, is an amazing piece of fiction. For that, I give it 4 out of 4 stars. This novella had everything readers are looking for in a great story. It had suspense, humor, fighting, and twists and turns along the way. As a teacher, I would recommend putting this book in your classrooms. I could see this novella in a middle school room. I think the length and suspense would get many of the students' attentions. This story would also be wonderful to use in high school. Since state standards are focusing more on different literacy genres, this would be a wonderful book to focus on the science fiction genre.

The Cellar: A Post-Apocalyptic Novella, by Richard Dela Cruz, is a must read for those who enjoy mysteries and fantasies. Richard Dela Cruz puts descriptive details into this story. I was skeptical at first, because science-fiction is not my usual genre, but I was glad that I gave it a chance. It is a story that I just could not put down. Watch out world, because Richard Dela Cruz is going to be a break-through author and he will take the science-fiction and fantasy world by storm.
