Official Review: The Wolf of the Highlands by Bil Howard

Post by Sieron1 »

[Following is the official OnlineBookClub.org review of ""The Wolf of the Highlands"" by Bil Howard.]

The Wolf of the Highlands by Bil Howard is an interesting fantasy story with a very complex and unique concept.
The story is about a man in modern times who takes a hike into the wilds to calm his troubled mind. So why is it that he still feels empty? What do his very strange dreams mean? Or are they dreams at all? And why does a wolf keep following him? These are the questions that his story raises towards the initial part of the book.

By the end of the book the questions have been answered but it the ending also leaves us with even more questions. But since this book is only given as Season 1 by Sanserial Publishing, it is possible that these questions will be answered in future books of the series. But despite that, the story definitely caught my mind, making it one of those books which you cannot put down till you finish reading.

With its rather complex concepts of time-travel and psychology it was a difficult book to understand in one go. But for an engrossed reader the concepts flow to make a fairy tale transcending time. The explanations about what was going on and the mental conclusions of the main character was a little stretched out and boring mainly because it involved a lot of psychological concepts and maybe a bit of theology. However reading through them patiently tended to give the ultimate reward of understanding the story line better as it grew more complex. But I believe the main reason the book felt a bit long was because the author has played around with just one main character with everything else revolving around him.

Despite the complexity I found it impossible to stop reading the book till it ended as I wanted all the questions raised desperately. As the writing style was good and mature, with no spelling or grammatical errors detectable, I enjoyed the ride. Since as far as I could find out Bil Howard is a fledgling new writer, I would say; not bad, not bad at all. Coming from a hardcore fantasy fan, that's great praise.

So I would give Bil Howard a 3 out of 4 for his first release, with thanks for keeping me stuck to the book. It's been some time since I found an author who did that. After all what is a successful book unless it can keep you hooked. I definitely feel like rereading the story because I want to understand the concepts more thoroughly and I will definitely be keeping out an eye for new releases by this author.

Hi Sieron1 and thank you for the review! It is highly appreciated.

I just wanted to point out that the link at the end leads to another book, "Ithaca" and not to "The Wolf of the Highlands".
Maybe something went wrong, when the review request was submitted.

The correct ASIN of "The Wolf of the Highlands" is B00EBG04MI.

Thank you!
