Review by Gloria Loy -- Containment Breach
The creatures that had been created by a missing bio-engineer, Demetrius Zayack, had become hostile and killed a science team that had been sent to the space station by World Alliance Armed Forces. Some of those creatures had sneaked into a spaceship that had just landed on planet earth. Dr. Walter Smithton, another bio-engineering scientist who had closely followed the footsteps of Demetrius Zayack on life-form building and development, was taken by World Alliance Intelligent operatives and sent to space. Dr. Smithton and his team were tasked with an intricate mission of finding a way to exterminate the creatures. The creatures seemed to be undergoing a certain form of mutation and quickly learning and developing new defense techniques. This made the task harder.
The best sci-fi novels puts futuristic ideas into stories that illuminate the present day issues. Containment Breach by Wm. A. Yandell is a prime example of this. This action-packed fiction novel is a fascinating read. I feel like this book was a deep reflection of how power play can put a lot of people at risk.
The majority of this story is told in the point of view of Dr. Smithton; first person point of view. This book does not follow the conventional chapter format. The scenes are separated with asterisks which were confusing on few occasions when I was too engrossed and failed to notice them. However, I must highlight that this did not interfere with the flow of the story. The writer’s storytelling ability was very spot on, I could really draw what I perceived as the right mental pictures while reading this book.
What I liked most about this book was how the characters were well-developed and very relatable. Most of them were realistic and I developed a close connection with them. The fact that we were offered the thoughts and first-hand observations of Dr. Smithton made it even more interesting. I felt like Dr. Smithton was used like a “very important piece in the chess board” by the authorities. I also liked how the dialogues in this book smoothly blended with the narrative. There was no sign of struggle when transitioning from the dialogues to the expositions and descriptions.
This book was very well-edited and well formatted. It has a nice and coherent flow. I enjoyed reading this book. With that said, It would be selfish if I took any stars away from my ratings. I give this book a rating of 4 out of 4 stars.
I recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of sci-fi. There was neither use of profane language nor any erotic scenes. People from all religious backgrounds can enjoy reading this book without feeling offended.
