1. Isaac Asimov
The foundation trilogy set the standard for any science fiction writer.
2. Arthur C Clark
2001 Space Odyssey - no other writer has ever been able to predict the near realistic future as much as Clark could.
3. Dan Simmons - Hyperion series
4. Orson Scott Card - enders Game
5. Frank Herbert - Dune

I hadn’t heard of a few of these authors, thanks for bringing them to my attention! I read the Ender’s Game series in high school. With the recent movie release of Dune, I’ve been curious to see what the novel is like. I’ve heard good things so far.
