Review by BlendingNow -- The Hand Bringer
The Hand Bringer by Christoper J. Penington is a sci-fi/fantasy packed novel. I would recommend everyone to have a read. The author has discussed in great detail, about the time travel concept and has made sure that it follows with the time paradoxes. The author has mixed suspense, romance, loyalty, and betrayal, all in a single book.
The story begins when police officer Peter Hadrian on his duty gets bitten by a creature later, he discovers it was a vampire. Peter and his loyal friend are taken to a secret lab where peter is cured of the blood of an ancient being called Boriana. Peter and Luke along with others are teamed up to go to the medieval century to stop the spread of vampirism which is caused by Dracula. Peter and his mates go through adventures they never expected. Along his journey, Peter meets his love and unites with her conquering the lands and stopping Dracula.
This book isn’t about romance all the way through. There is loyalty among couples though each one turns into a vampire; the other stays close to them. I would’ve preferred the author to describe some scenes such as the encounter of Dracula with Deycheaba after Peter left him. Nonetheless, ups and downs in the story were what I liked.
There is a mix of emotions you get when reading this book which I enjoy the most. From friendship, loyalty to betrayal, and love. As with any well-written novel. The author has also done a great job of highlighting the intricate details of the surroundings the heroes are encountered with. There was suffering endured by the characters Elizabeth and Boriana for their love. The character I liked the most was Theodoric. He was a humble knight who was dedicated to his God. His loyalty to Peter even in the most dangerous situations is what makes him unique.
Readers should know that there is the use of vulgar language and also some sexual scenes such as rape, though these scenes were not explicitly described. There are violent scenes during wars, as they should be. Also, there was a description of Christian religion such as one character by Iaon the blind, who speaks to Peter about rebirth from the blood of the Messiah. Though, I feel non-Christians would enjoy the book.
I rate the book 4 out of 4 stars. I’m not giving it 3 stars is because I feel the story is really good. Also, the author has done a great job editing the book. I couldn’t find any typos. It was a well-edited book.
I would recommend this book to anyone seeking adventure and a thrilling read. Although I wouldn’t advise readers who don’t prefer vampire stuff and science fiction novels to read this book.
