This series is simply captivating, the character's are so detailed, the setting is so defined, and the overall story is just plain exciting! If you pick up any of these books make sure you have nothing to do that day because you will be emersed for hours!

I really enjoyed the 1st book in the series. Second book was mostly the 1st book retold from different viewpoint. Still good, but predictable. Third book was partly the same story told from yet a different view point. First in the series was the best, but the other 2 are good also.

I enjoyed "parts" of the first book. There were certain scenes that came across, at least to me as very well written and captivating. I felt however, that the book was largely dominated by "negatives".
I felt it focused on one character way too much whilst shoving the two others into the role of very loosely supporting cast. In a certain part of the book after a certain change to the main character I will not spoil, I felt at least the main female character got a bit more background and started generally contributing to the story. However the third "main" character was really officially given the role of third wheel at this point.
I also feel events didn't flow into each other, which left a lot of the prose disjointed and wonky.
Someone mentioned the predictable aspect already. Which is a shame.
It has an...interesting magic system but I felt the advent of the demons and therefore the whole driving force of the book very impersonal. Akin to wild beasts attacking humans. Which is not really an issue in our urban societies anymore. So I couldn't really relate.
Although I must clarify I am by no means bashing the book, all in all I think it showed Brett's "Noobiness" to the genre. Do I think he has anything to really contribute to the genre?..hmmm..no but that's more subjective than anything else.
Well, I'm glad you're enjoying it, at least.

I LOVED this series! It has a very post-apocalyptic feel to it, and I loved learning more about the Demons near the end of the last book. The Skull Throne will be out Next March, and I can hardly wait. I haven't read any of the short stories, has anyone here read them? If so, what did you think of them?

This is by far one of my personal favorites. I was swept away from the beginning of the series and am patiently awaiting the next installment. Peter V. Brett is able to take you from one perspective to the next and completely change your stance, just when you think you know who the "good guys" are.

I agree that the first book in the series was the best. It was captivating, focused and the background for the characters were solid. On the second book, I felt there were too many new characters and sub-plots that did actually contribute to what the first book started The third book felt rushed.
Still, Peter V. Brett has got his own style and I think that alone is enough to read this series.

Loved the first three books. I can understand the compliments about book 2 and 3, because much of them are taken up by flashback retellings of other characters early life perspectives. But I thought both story were interesting enough. The Skull Throne was a bit of a let down, but I am thinking the 5th and deciding book will be a fantastic showdown!

I was very captivated by the first book and I eagerly read the second and third. My love for it declined after the first, which is the strongest in the series in my opinion. What I found most interesting was, and I think someone mentioned this already, was the magic itself. It was totally unique from other fantasy books I have read and it kept me hooked. If you are interested in this book please give it a read, especially if you are looking for something that is original in the fantasy genre.

I finished skull throne and i have to say i felt like they were sluggishly going through the motions. Almost as if they were taking forever to get from point A to point B. That being said i srill couldn't put it down and i love all the books. Can't wait for the next one to come out.
