Official Review: The Fall to Power: Part One
This is a fantasy book that starts out with a young man, Stone, who gets fired, dumped, and then is driven to suicide. Waking up in an unknown place faced with starvation, memory loss and predators Stone must figure out who he really is and how he can survive in such a strange place. After an altercation with a Slaver he realizes that he can control his own destiny. What will he choose? Good or Evil? This first part is very well written and very engaging. The main theme of the book seems to be good vs. evil but also the possibility of magic, other worlds and travel.
I really enjoyed this story because it was suspenseful and unexpected. I couldn’t put it down and look forward to the second installment. I’m one who loved to daydream of what I could accomplish if only I had special abilities to help things along but I must confess I didn’t think of the abilities that Stone seems to possess. One thing that I didn’t like was the element of revenge in the book. It seemed to be more important than choosing to do what is right, or would seem right, to the reader. But that is also what seems to keep things moving through the story.
I’ve realized that things aren’t always black and white in people’s minds and that our own perspectives will change right and wrong in our thinking. I have to admit I was a little disappointed in Stone’s outlook sometimes but then again how would I react in the situations he had to face?
What would you do if your life seemed to fall apart in one day? What if you heard voices mocking you? What if you were chased by demons or something a little more sinister? Or if you woke up in a strange place with no memory of who you are, how you got there or how you are able to do strange and seemingly impossible things? Stone faces these questions and more in this enchanting fantasy adventure.
Overall I rated this book with 3 out of 4 stars because it was very well written and very imaginative and engaging. I didn’t give it 4 stars however because the main character seemed to change into a hypocrite and usually you would want your character to be more solid in their convictions than that. However, It is only the first part of the story I could be off base on this. I feel justified in my rating and I highly recommend this to lovers of fiction. To potential readers I recommend that you keep in mind that this is the first installment; you may love the overall story more than I did. And to the Author thanks for the adventure, I love a good adventure, and I look forward to reading the rest.
