Official Review: Disaffection by Samar Pant
"Our entire life, we chase the wrong things because we think having more money and buying more stuff will make us happier. But it doesn't. Do you know why a billionaire has 100 Ferraris? Because 99 weren't enough." This quote from Oliver Markus Malloy briefly summarizes the book Disaffection by Samar Pant.
Disaffection is a short story of a man who promised his dying father that he would excel in life in every way possible. He studied law and information technology and worked hard to get good grades. He sacrificed his social life, and before the age of 28, he was working in a well-paid establishment of his dream. He was earning a six-digit salary and climbing the corporate ladder faster than the average employee. Some colleagues and friends envied his rise, but he was sad, hollow, and empty. Life was meaningless to him, and he was looking for a solution out of his emptiness. Does it mean wealth isn't all that makes a man happy? What was his lasting solution to find happiness? The answers make this book an exciting read.
Samar Pant wrote the storyline in the first-person narrative style, and I loved that this method made the story come alive. The author explores the virtues of happiness, honesty, and hard work in the book. What was fascinating to me in the book was that the theme applied to the human pursuit of happiness in the wrong places. Furthermore, I learned an essential lesson that money, fame, and earthly possessions don't guarantee satisfaction. This will help avoid obsessions of wealth, greed, corruption, and, most importantly, sadness.
I enjoy as the short story was able to blend supernatural mystery and traditional medications with science. Also, I love that the author clarified that the alternative means humans explore to achieve happiness, like alcohol and drugs, doesn't solve life's critical challenges. Besides, I appreciate the value of decision-making in the pursuit of happiness and personal development detailed in the book. In addition, I learned that one could get inspired by the strangest of scenarios.
The book is exciting and filled with valuable lessons to guide readers on a career path, and there is nothing I dislike about it. However, I found a few errors in the book, which could be avoided with another round of editing.
The storyline is interesting, and there are a lot of lessons to learn from it. However, I rate Disaffection 3 out of 4 stars because of the issue of grammatical errors I mentioned. I recommend this book to teenage readers, readers of short motivational stories, and individuals that seek an intriguing story to educate them.

For me, a book like this is a reminder or a guide on 'the things that actually matter'. Things that help us live our best life more easily.
I really enjoyed this review. And I hope I get a chance to read this book.
