Voulhire a kingdom characterized by peace, freedom, and prosperity. The people are contented and industrious, while the leaders rule with benevolence and fairness. Another unique aspect is the mastery and use of magic and magical objects. We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies follows the story of Galen Bray and Lord Eldus Alderman. Galen is a young man who grew up under oppression and significant restrictions. He is from the Lands of the Princes, where errors are met with immediate death or methodical torture. However, in a lucky turn, Galen’s great uncle from Voulhire, upon his death, names him as his heir. He further arranges for Galen's immediate relocation to Voulhire, essentially becoming his savior and ticket to a better and happier life.

Lord Eldus, is the new leader of Hillport, a town still in recovery from its two previous leaders. Eldus first has to help the people recover from the trauma caused by the cruelty and perversions of his predecessors, Lord Meldorath and Lord Orlin. Secondly, Eldus plans to transform Hillport into a thriving industrial hub. Things do not go as planned for both Galen and Eldus; they both find themselves with a lot to learn and an unfamiliar world of magic to understand. Galen finds himself with two companions as his guides, who additionally have ulterior motives and unclear reasons behind helping him. Eldus has unseen enemies who completely blindside him, resulting in fatal consequences for him and his family. There is also the riddle of Lord Meldorath, is he truly dead? Are the people truly safe and free from his influence?

Matthew Tysz brings forth a world of historical adventure, magic, and betrayal. The book is well arranged and easy to read, with the language used being slightly historic and authentic. The introduction is descriptive and straightforward, immediately diving into the story. Therefore, hooking and captivating the reader. The author distinctly describes the characters so that it is easy to visualize their various attributes and characteristics. Additionally, the description of the different sceneries and settings is also exquisite, including magical abilities like that of the old prisoner and the intricate fighting scenes. This makes the book quite intriguing and interesting.

I thoroughly enjoyed how different and seemingly unrelated storylines and characters gradually merged as the book concluded. For instance, how Riva, Beth, and Meldorath finally fit into Eldus's story. I equally love the naming of the chapters; they all follow the same format as the book’s title, and I find that quite creative. However, it is challenging to understand and follow some characters during their introduction. For example, one chapter contains a captivating and flowing story, and then the next introduces a new character and storyline. As a result, it takes time to connect the two chapters and get back to the flow and plot.

The book is professionally edited; I found no grammatical or spelling errors. The language is simple but suitable for mature readers since it has instances of profanities and some sexual humor. Nevertheless, the book is full of suspense and tension as well; it leaves you with questions and a sense of urgency to read the next book in the series and uncover more. I, therefore, rightfully give it a 4 out of 4 stars rating. I recommend the read to anyone looking for an intense mix of science and historical fiction.

The review is very detailed and does the book justice on a lot of aspects. I rated the book 2 out of 4 stars though. The cliffhanger really disappointed me.
