Review by jerick_12 -- We are Voulhire: The Fires of Virko
We are Voulhire: The Fires of Virko is a fictional story written by Matthew Tysz. This is the second book under the We are Voulhire series. It depicts the continuation of Galen's journey.
Galen is a refugee from the Land of the Princes. After receiving the paperworks granting him all his late uncle's assets, he traveled to Voulhire. One day, while in the middle of forging a sword, the mayor visited him. The mayor asked Galen to go to Virko. Galen obliged. He and his friends, Demetrius and Rowan journeyed to Virko in search of iron.
In Virko, the trio got acquainted with Kayden Morgan, who helped them get an audience with Lord Venden. The lord agreed to send them iron. In turn, the lord asked them for a favor. He wanted them to banish the demon living under their residence. The three agreed. Little did they know, the demon bound there is connected to the lord's son. What is he planning?
I find the novel very entertaining. The plot got much more interesting towards the end. The story is action-packed. The author's descriptions make it easy to picture the events transpiring. I also appreciated the author for writing Galen's character in the first person which allowed me to imagine the events in his perspective. On the other hand, the author wrote the other scenes in the third person. This allowed me to see all the other events happening in the background. Although Galen is the protagonist of the series, the spotlight for this book belongs to Demetrius. He is my favorite character so far. His determination to go through with the lord's request, even though he didn't have to is admirable. I also enjoyed Kayden's character. His character development is astounding.
This story deserves a 4 out of 4. I did not find any errors while reading. This novel is professionally edited. Although some scenes are gruesome, I still find it enjoyable. The author handled sensitive scenes well. Since this is the second book under the We are Voulhire series, I do not recommend this to people who have not yet read the first one. This novel contains profanity and sexual content. As stated above, this book tackles sensitive issues that may not be appropriate for younger readers and those who are sensitive to it. The book even opened with two men almost raping a girl. I do recommend this to those who read the first book and wanted to know what happened after.
