The town mayor of Magnum Caelum requested Galen to visit Virko to look for someone who can supply them with iron to help the town prosper. Demetrius, Galen and Rowan meet up with Demetrius’ friend named Lord Kayden Morgan. Lord Kayden acquired many businesses in Virko, however, none of them were related to mining or steel business. He referred them to the lord of Virko, Venden Hrelek, instead. Lord Venden, even though on his deathbed, promised them that he would supply Magnum Caelum the iron they needed. He told them about the evil force living in the undercroft of Rendenhide Manor too. His dying wish is for Demetrius, a monk, to kill the evil source residing in the undercroft before it wreaks havoc in the whole town.

Meanwhile, an unknown virus spreads out in Yamon Soul. The Eiodi and all the doctors do not know where it originated nor how to cure it. The Eiodi suspects that it was created with dark magic. Is the unknown virus a part of Meldorath’s plan to destroy Yamon Soul after Hillport? Will Rowan, Demetrius and Galen be able to save the town from danger?

I recommend the book to readers who like science fiction and thriller novels. There are many mysteries mentioned in the story that will keep your mind fully engage up to the last page. However, I do not recommend this book to readers who have foniasophobia. The book has plenty of descriptive violence that may act as a trigger.

I felt like I was left hanging on what had happened to Galen Bray after I finished reading the first book of the We are Voulhire series. I decided to read this second book We are Voulhire: The Fires of Virko just right after I wrote my review on the first book. I think I will be stuck reading We are Voulhire series as I really like to follow Galen’s journey. There are many questions left unanswered in this second book, which makes it more interesting. I love the way Matthew Tysz wrote every chapter. Readers will always keep on wondering what happens next. What I love the most about this book is the use of psychology and philosophy to bring out the characters’ personalities making the story intriguing.

Overall, the book is well written and the storyline is better than I expected. The story captured my imagination and satisfied my curiosity about the magical world and the physical world of Voulhire. In addition, I think this book is professionally edited; therefore, I rate it 4 out of 4 stars.
