Spider's Bite by Jennifer Estep

Post by VoraciousReader13 »

I came across the book one day as I was perusing my local library. At the time I had just finished another fantasy series and was looking for another one to fill the void for awhile. The cover caught my attention and after the reading the back I couldn't resist checking it out. The protagonist is both an assassin and an elemental? Count me in.

I immediately fell in love with Gin Blanco. She was fun, spunky, and a complete bad ass. I loved the way Jennifer Estep brought her and the entire cast of characters to life. Finn made me swoon, Sophia made me intrigued, and JoJo was a doll. My only gripe was Donovan Cain. Donovan Cain is everything I don't desire in a man. Not only is Donovan indecisive about his feelings towards Gin, but he also makes her feel bad at every turn. Yes, he's handsome. But Gin can do a million times better than him.

The writing was well done, except for one thing. The author has a tendency to repeat herself constantly. By the time I had finished the book I could tell you instantly how many knives Gin carried and where she kept them. Other than that, the writing was brilliantly done. The book started off on a high note and kept right on rolling. Speaking of the beginning of the book, the first chapter is one of my favorite first chapters for any fantasy book ever. The book went along at a lovely pace, and Jennifer Estep is now one of my favorite fantasy authors.

“Oh, Finn isn’t an assassin,” I cut in. “He’s much, much worse. He’s a banker."

“The two men stared at each other. Assumptions were made, judgments rendered, dicks measured.”
