Steel Reign: Flight of the Starship Concord is a sci-fi action thriller book by Braxton A. Cosby. The book follows the story of Steel Reign, a humanoid being from the solar system called Proxima Centauria. Reign is an ex-spy turned rogue, then hero, back to rogue again, and finally nomad.

After the Battle Solstice, King Williams of The Torrian Alliance, offered Reign a position among his Royals as his first-tier security officer but he refused. Reign prefers to roam the galaxy free rather than remain in the safety of the Alliance. With credits running low and the mission only known to him, he lands a deal in the black market for an artifact. But when the deal doesn’t go as planned, he has to save his heard and board a space ship to Neyaz Jezpa. On the space ship, he is approached by a tech-savvy young man, Gifford, who happens to know everything about him and his mission. Gifford comes with an offer that is hard to resist. What is Gifford’s agenda?

Steel Reign: Flight of the Starship Concord is a great book and a fast read with action from the first page. Braxton convincingly writes about the fantasy world so much that it captures your imagination and takes you to the world beyond. The book is narrated as the first person in the eyes of Steel Reign, which further allows the reader to connect with the characters intimately.

The characters are well developed and easy to follow and understand. I like how the role of Reign develops throughout the story; he starts as an awkward empty loner whose only mission is to survive, but as the plot continues, you begin to see witness, care, and somewhat love for his teammates.

What I liked the least about the book is how the character of Serias was left hanging. Her leaving the Concord without clear explanation, and briefly appearing again from no-where to save Reign and disappear again. Hopefully, we will see more of her in the next book since the author notified “not the end” at the closing of the last chapter.

Young adults and fans of Sci-Fi and thriller books may enjoy this book. I find it not suitable for young readers because of borderline profanity and some sexual comments.

The book is well written with attention to detail and professionally editted. I would love to see the plot continues, and that is why I am giving the book 4 out of 4 stars.
