Review by Gina Westhuizen -- We are Voulhire: The Fires ...
We are Voulhire: The Fires of Virko is the follow up to Matthew Tysz first book of this series (We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies). It continues the exciting Sci-fi fantasy adventures of Galen and his loyal friends. In this novel you meet new characters that add to storyline of Voulhire.
Galen meets a dark character named Folcro, he is an individual who is level headed, well controlled and fuelled by bitterness. Folcro uses dark magic and unholy spirts to run a rampage in Virko. It is now up to Galen, Rowan and Demetrius try to save the city from people such as Folcro and Lord Dragan. During their quest they find themselves facing more than what they could have expected.
The Fires of Virko has a much darker storyline compared to the previous book (A New Arrival under Great Skies). Matthew Tysz is exquisitely descriptive throughout his book with details about general locations, characters and situations. When you come across a murder or dark magic scene written in the book, you can’t help but appreciate Matthew Tysz attention to detail
I give the book 4 out of 4 stars. What I like most about We are Voulhire: The Fires of Virko is the storyline. I found myself getting completely absorbed into the book. It is skilfully written with new exciting situations for our brave characters to overcome. There are many twists and turns that will keep you guessing what will happen next. There is plenty of dark magic, mystery, murder and betrayal to the storyline that kept me fascinated throughout the book.
I grew even fonder of the character called Galen. I admire to what extent he is willing to withstand trouble for his friends. The monk, Demetrius and his arrogant friend, Rowans playful banter adds a touch of humour to the sci-fi fantasy novel. Reading how these three friends interact with each other, even in the most troubling times in the story will make you smile. There was truly nothing I disliked about this book; it is by far one of the best stories I have read in a long time. It was only a pleasure to read a book that is exceptionally well edited.
This Sci-fi fantasy is filled with magic, dark thrilling situations, betrayal and friendships made between strong characters in tough situations. This book is for people who enjoy an exciting mystery, magic and the middle ages, where knights and lords controlled the noble men. Young adults to mature adults will enjoy what this book has to offer.
