Review by iknwuzoh -- We are Voulhire: The Fires of Virko
We Are Voulhire: The Fires Of Virko by Matthew Tysz is a book that talks about Galen and his coming to Virko. The book is a continuation of the Voulhire series by Matthew Tysz. Lord Venden built the city of Virko and it became an industrial hub for the entire Voulhire. He became sick and he had a son, Hans. Galen inherited his uncle's business and learnt about forging from his uncle's notebooks.
When Galen visited Lord Venden and asked him for iron reserves, Lord Venden said yes and made a request. His son Hans need to be delivered from a demon. This brings in Demetrius, the monk, Rowan and the rest to the story.
What I liked most about the book was the use of a map at the beginning of the story. This map showed places like the Virken Plains, Yamon Soul, Hillport and Alcovia, which helps in comprehending places, mentioned in the story. Another commendable thing about the way the author wrote the book is the listing of one character for each story. Writing with one character per story also made the book more comprehensive. There is nothing I disliked most about the book. However I will say that readers will have to pick up from the previous story and might not follow-up this book. The author should have added a brief summary of the previous story in the beginning, so that readers can follow-up from the previous story.
This book is meant for travellers as we see Galen who travels around various places in Voulhire. This book reflects on capitalism which Lord Venden Hrelek chose for Virko. It dives into capitalism reflecting on it as against socialism. Western countries practice capitalism like the United States while other nations like Russia and China practice socialism. This book is not meant for those who hate magic, since a lot of combats in this book use magic. Characters like Demetrius practiced much magic. The monarchy system of leadership involves transfer of political power from the king, to his son and we see that when Hans, the son of Lord Venden, became the Lord of Virko. This book is also recommended for those who read books that continue from the previous story, book 1, book 2 and so on like this book.
This book is a work of fiction and is a recommendation for those who read fiction too. I did not notice much typos and grammatical errors in the book, so I will say that the book is professionally edited. Therefore, I rate it 4 out of 4 stars . It is a book for readers of magical stories and fantasy.
