What would your decision be if the fate of the entire world rested on your shoulders? In The Decision, Michael D. Komeshak leads us through the experience of a man named Jason as he is faced with this question, and it is all up to him to decide on the right answer.

It all started on one normal Sunday. By that night, however, the world had never been so terrified and shocked. Jason, just like the rest of the world, could not believe that a UFO was hovering over Long Island. Things became even more confusing when Jason and his girlfriend, Sarah, were whisked away to Hawaii. Upon arriving, Jason became part of the thirteen Chosen Ones, seven civilians and six UN ambassadors who had been randomly chosen to be a part of a special meeting with the aliens who landed on Sunday. The people who had been chosen all seemed to possess different religions, ages, races, and beliefs. Little did the group know at the time that they were to be a part of the aliens’ plan to better the world. Over three days, they were given three different decisions to make, each day presenting an even harder dilemma. The group was tested on their beliefs, ethics, and morals. What will the result of their decisions be? Have they helped to better the world and make a smooth path for the next generation, or have they thrown the planet into chaos and turmoil?

The Decision, written by Michael D. Komeshak, was one of the best books that I have read this year. One of the most interesting aspects of this book was the discussions that occurred between the thirteen Chosen Ones. Because all these characters had such different viewpoints about so many different aspects of life, the discussions were often heated and intriguing. However, at some points, I found that these parts of the book would drag on for page after page. At other times, I found that these conversations were too short. Although certain parts of the book seem too prolonged, there are other points where it was hard to put it down. The ending of this book is the true showstopper. This is most definitely a book you will never forget.

Overall, this book was very well written. The main thing about this book that annoyed me was that the characters often used profanity that did not add to the book and only gave a crude feel to the dialogues. I was also annoyed at a few run-on sentences that ruined the flow of the book, along with too many sentences that started with “and” or “but”. This annoyed me because it made the flow of the book choppy and gave it a less polished feel. Despite this, The Decision is very easy to read as it uses common language that is easily comprehended. The book was also outstandingly well-edited. Throughout the entire book, I only found one typo.

I would recommend this book to almost anyone, but especially to people who enjoy having to think even after finishing a book. I would not recommend this book to someone who is simply looking for a sci-fi book, since the aliens, although they are the reason for the entire plot, are not present during most of the book. I also would not recommend this book to young children due to the excessive amount of profanity and borderline erotic scenes. Those sensitive to suicide should be aware that a suicide does occur in this book.

Overall, I would give this book 4 out of 4 stars because the plot was well thought-out, the editing was well-done, and it was well-penned. I truly would suggest this book to you, and I promise you that you will not regret reading it.
