We are Voulhire: The Fires of Virko by Matthew Tysz is the second book of the captivating 'We are Voulhire' series. The book follows through so many places and characters, which keeps the story engaging and worth reading. The story follows the first book, so it is suggestible to read the first book in the series. The havoc created in Hillport leads to quite some significant consequences with the death of Lord Eldus, whereas Hillport falling in the hands of the powerful mage, Melodrath. Melodrath feels betrayed by King Wilhem for his imprisonment and wishes to seek by roiling a mysterious plan.

The book presents the heart of Voulhirian industry, Virko, a new city that had some remarkable changes in a short period, emerging as the place of business and dreams in the reign of Lord Venden. Lord Venden is ill and bedridden, whereas his son, Folcro, is deeming his plans of the dark magic. Meanwhile, Galen and his mates, Rowan and Demetrius, embark on a journey to Virko to gather more access to iron. What does Virko have in store for them? Will the demons lurking in the dark will create difficulties for our lads? What devious plan is Melodrath scheming?

Still, the best part of the book is its impeccable characters and an intriguing plot. The book is very wholesome from our refreshing trio, Galen, Rowan, and Demetrius; their constant banter lightens the tone of the book. Melodrath, the powerful mage, is portrayed as evil but with an equally compelling back story, whereas the other characters also play the required part. The author introduces each character strikingly that leaves an impression on our minds. It is exciting how the characters have developed so far, and I am rooting for most of them in further installments of the series.

Tysz has done a marvelous job in keeping the suspense and thrill in the book, with cities dwelling in dark magic and mages with super abilities. I was also fascinated by the different realms and their world described in the book. The book unravels the mysteries of Voulhire without fail. This 158 paged novel was hard to put down as I kept flipping through the pages. This book touches upon aspects that compel a person to ponder on the harsh realities of capitalism and the potholes of a flourishing society.

The church described in this book has certain norms and practices which don't align with the traditional beliefs but are well-put according to the story's demand. Though the book engages new characters, it gets tiring and hard to keep track. Apart from this, I didn't encounter any grammatical errors, concluding the book is well-edited. The book has a fair share of profanity and gory scenes appropriate for a mature audience.

I would rate the book four out of four stars. Despite the above some mentioned points, I won't drop a single star to appreciate the creativity of the author and hard work put into such a captivating book. I would recommend this book to readers who have a keen eye for thrillers with well-developed characters and a powerful, suspense-filled storyline.
