In the second book of the we are the voulhire series by Mathew Tysz, the story mainly revolves around Virko. The fires here keep getting stocked and disaster is imminent. When the older leader of Virko, a commercial city is about to die, he liaises with the king so as to prevent his son Folcro from inheriting the leadership of his throne. On the contrary, he prefers that his authority is transferred to the merchants and bankers of that area so that the area can develop more. Falcro was not as calm as he looked, deep down the young man stocked evil and trouble.

When the trio of Galen, Rowen and Demetrius go to Virko to look for a source of ore for Galen’s work as a black smith, they meet the leader of Virko on his deathbed. Then they discover something dark and powerful hidden in that manor and Falcro knew of it. This was something very dark and its presence spelt doom for Virko. From then onwards, it was Demetrius who is a monk, Rowen and Galen who sought the path to deal with this evil existence, but could they win or did they bite more than they could chew.

On the other side, Meldorith is not silent, he is scheming and he is a powerful mage, the most powerful in the whole country of Voulhire. The fight between science, faith and magic is imminent and reading through the journey is intriguing. There is disaster brewing, a virus that can read your thoughts and see what you see was discovered. The disease even makes use of magic. Will the Eodi, priest, be able to understand and deal with it?

We are the voulhire- The Fires of Virko is an exciting account that had me hooked line and sinker from the word go. It is a world of mystery, magic and religion. This second novel is so exciting such that putting it down was hard. You experience the emotions of each character well, and the characters have been built up well and so the story flows well.

The thing I liked the most about this book was the extraordinary world the author created. This is a world of imagination that has been made to look and feel so real such that when reading you feel that the things depicted there can actually happen in the real world. Again, the author is fluent and his way of presenting his work is exciting and captivating.

Some of the themes handled herein include; magic, religion, leadership and family. This is a book I recommend to anyone who loves dark sinister sci-fi novels, people who love mystery novels will also appreciate this. This book is totally worth the money you spend to purchase it. There is use of profane words through the book, something you should consider when purchasing this.

Again, the book conveys a controversial topic on the sensitive matter of gay relationships, this however only occupies a very small portion of the book and there are no explicit details. There are brutal murder scenes also depicted in the book though there are also not explicitly explained in gross terms. I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars because it was a good read and the book was also edited professionally.
