Kata can't foresee his future but when he escapes with his best friend, Tau, he definitely didn't see the troubles that would arise. As they planet-hop, eagerly seeking a safe place, the problems only increase. And just when Kata believes they've found sanctuary, the truth reveals its ugly head. Will an unexpected ally on a lawless planet heal or break his fragile trust? And give them both the peaceful home they've been searching for?

What could I say about this book? I'm a bit of a stickler for underdogs, so I enjoyed the book thoroughly. Following the viewpoint of Kata as he tries to escape was an enjoyable experience. She does an amazing job of creating the feelings and emotions a person would have in these situations. Tau's feelings are relatable as he determines if his actions will incite the right reactions. She also does well in stringing two different viewpoints together. When Alan Morgan's viewpoint comes into play (thank goodness for beautiful hearts like his), it's identifiable, but it doesn't spring up out of the blue. It follows Kata's line of thought perfectly.

The cast of characters was absolutely spectacular. I loved how the author gave the viewpoints of everyone, even those with little role in what happened to Kata or Tau. I appreciate how the bond between some characters grew subtly but was wonderful to watch. The descriptions and dialogue brought them all to life in the mind's eye. The plot was perfectly laid out but with neat little twists that you didn't suspect until they were revealed later on in the story. The book, in my opinion, is a masterpiece.

This tale doesn't have much wrong. It gets a tad on the gory side so small children probably shouldn't be reading this one. The profanity was thick and severe at times but for some characters, it made them that much more alive. I would recommend adolescents with a taste for the emotional side of science fiction stories and adults who enjoy a nice serving of justice with their fiction should read this book.

I give Homecoming by Jude Austin 4 out of 4 stars. She did a wonderful job with this novel and I absolutely loved it! Like I said, I'm a stickler for the underdogs so I loved watching the events unfold the way they did. The book was exceptionally well-edited and, other than the profanity, a wonderful read.
