Official Review: David Bishop and the Legend of the Orb
David Bishop and the Legend of the Orb is the first book in a series by T. C. Crawford. This science-fiction starts with the orphan boy, David Bishop, running into the forest. David had been in a confrontation with the richest kid in his school and had accidentally killed him. While in the forest, David is engulfed in a glowing goo and loses consciousness. When he awakens, he finds himself in a strange world, where he is immediately attacked by creatures that are half wolf and half man. After escaping them, he seeks shelter in a temple he finds. He sees a crystal orb and investigates. When he touches the orb he is not able to let go, and it embeds itself into his hand. He is found by Erin and Tyrius, and they proclaim that according to prophecy David is the chosen one. Since he is not from this world, David does not know what they are talking about. Erin and Tyrius explain that he is the chosen one to defeat the Defiant One, who was sealed in the Dark Abyss of Mystic Mountain thousands of years ago to keep darkness from the world. The Defiant One is the Mystic of Destruction, who will destroy the world if he and his Army of Demons are released. David is the only one who can destroy him. How can a teenage orphan from another world defeat this Mystic?
You will encounter, not only the half-wolf half-man creatures in this book, but also magic, elves, dwarfs, mages, the walking dead, demons, love, and violence. David learns from the Mystic Elders that no matter what comes your way never give up hope on your fate. He has to always stand up for what he believes in, for his rights. There is a lot of truth in this. To reach goals in your life, you have to have faith in your abilities. David does this by learning from the Elders, who have mystic powers of their own. They help him learn how to work with the Orb, so he can fight the Defiant One and the demons.
The best thing I liked about this book was the portrayal of Erin as a strong warrior woman. Her strength and wisdom play a major role in the book. I also liked the Map of Hurea at the beginning of the book that showed the distances the different armies had to travel. The only thing I disliked about the book was that the plot surrounded the riddles of the events. This is only a personal preference that may not bother many other readers.
This well-written book has no significant profanity nor sexual content. Due to all the fighting, there is gore that may offend some, but if you like stories about magic, the walking dead, and demons you will enjoy the book. Other than young children, I would recommend this book to any age group. There is no religious content to offend readers.
I believe this book was professionally edited because I only found two sentences with missing words in them. I gladly give this book 4 out of 4 stars, and I anxiously look forward to reading the next book in the series.
