Restlessness continues to brew in the Kingdom of Voulhire. Virko is a technologically advanced city. The Lord of Virko is dying. His people crave a change of leadership in hopes of a new future. The Lord’s son seeks to implement his own plans after the passing of his father. Will he comply with his people or will he do what he wants? Does he even want to rule at all? Hidden in the shadows, a fearsome evil is waiting to wreak havoc on the city as well. Meanwhile, our humble Galen and his friends travel to Virko. They get caught in all the chaos. He is still learning to be a blacksmith and trying to find his place in the new world. Galen will fight for what is good and right to keep his new home safe. All this turmoil is happening under King Wilhelm’s nose. What will he do to ensure his the safety of his kingdom?

I liked the creative writing of We are Voulhire: The Fires of Virko by Matthew Tysz. The story is exciting from beginning to end. Each character has their own plans and goals they try to implement that causes stress in the story. I adored the way the author kept us in suspense through the course of the book. Each chapter is descriptively written so that the reader is able to visualize the story clearly. I admired Galen's loyalty to his friends in a story where not everything is as it seems.

Some readers may consider We are Voulhire: The Fires of Virgo a stand-alone novel. I prefer reading the series in order. It helps with the clarity of the book. The flow of this story is seamless. There is nothing I disliked about this book. I did not find any errors. The novel seems professionally edited. There are quite a few profane words as well as violent scenes.

I rate this book four out of four stars. There is so much substance that it reads as an entertaining story. We are able to understand the characters as they grow and change. However, I feel like we haven’t even scratched the surface of the plot yet. That is a plus in my opinion. One of my favourite lines is "Every moment is an experience and every experience a gift. All you have to do is recognize it, and every day will feel just like the celebration we're having right now."

This is the second book of the We are Voulhire sci-fi series. I recommend this book to sci-fi fans. There is mystery and magic in this novel as well. I encourage those fans to read this book too. I do not recommend this novel to children due to the profanity and violence. I can't wait to see what happens in the next book!
