We Are Voulhire: The Fires of Virko is a novel written by Matthew Tysz. It is the second book of the We Are Voulhire series, and it continues the themes of fantasy and drama it had since the first part. In this one, we embark on the main character’s story to take care of the son’s lord Folcro and protecting the city from Dalehei Meldorath, the dark mage.

The story gets deeper and more complicated with each event, and new elements get introduced one after the other. Themes like political issues, friendship, and romance mend the plot together and give the reader multiple sources of enjoyment and interest throughout the novel, without forgetting that action is a constant component.

The details and attention given to the characters make We Are Voulhire: The Fires of Virko a novel worth every second. The author does a great job developing the characters and connecting new ones with ones of the earlier part to have a smooth transition between the two. The world-building is also fantastic; it is vividly described and plays a significant role in making the story interesting. In addition to that, the fights are full of action and hard to predict, giving a great sense of danger and a touch of realness as well.

As for the style of writing, it is surprisingly simple. Yet, it totally fits within the context of this story and helps the reader pay more attention to the events and details instead of the language itself. I also liked the depth of the plot and how multiple backstories and motives of each character are deeply embedded, whether it was an important character or even a secondary one. This shows that the author has a good hold and experience creating a quality fantasy story.

I rate this story 4 out of 4 stars. It wasn’t hard to come up with this rating; the novel has all the necessary elements and components to be considered a high quality work. Besides that, it is well-edited; I couldn’t find a grammar mistake in all the pages I’ve read. Though it may have been the amazing job of luring the reader to focus on the story, either way, it goes to the book and author’s credit. The only thing that I didn’t like is that gore and profanity are strongly present. Therefore this novel is not suited for the young and fearful audience.
