Homecoming by Jude Austin is a thought-provoking sequel to Project Tau. After Kata and Tau escape from GenTech, they attempt to stay hidden on the run to Kata’s home planet, Trandellia. Once they make it there, Kata wants to live in peace with Tau, but things go array when the Trandellian government forces Kata to become a super-soldier. He has no other choice but to put his peaceful dreams on hold once they threaten to send Tau back to GenTech if Kata doesn’t follow their orders. The book is filled with many obstacles and shows readers how much Kata and Tau will go through to protect each other. Prepare to become invested in the characters as the two clones learn what it is to be human.

The first book was great, but I have to say I liked this one more. What I liked most about this book was the way that the characters grew as people. Even after everything they’ve been through, they start to do things that no one would expect two clones who have been used for other people’s gains to do, such as trust. You watch their characters become more human-like and not just clones who were created for the purpose to be soldiers. You become attached while watching them go through their journey and start to understand the pain they feel. I think that a story where the reader becomes emotionally attached to the characters is the best kind. There was top-notch action and unique detail but what made the story all come together was the amount of genuine caring between the two main characters.

While the plot and characters were fascinating, what I ended up disliking the most was the end of the book. I can’t go into much detail because that would be spoiling it, but I will say that it was lacking, especially when it came to Tau’s perspective. It left the ending to be more unsatisfying than it could have been. Other than that, it was a strong story that left the reader wanting more.

I would suggest the book to mature teenagers and adults who can handle inappropriate scenes, such as violence and implied rape, and some profanity. I recommend reading Project Tau before this one to understand the character’s experiences in more detail.

This book gets 4 out of 4 stars from me because it satisfied the need for a compelling sequel after reading the first book. It was very well-written, and I found no errors. I enjoyed the book, and I think people should read the perspective of a clone, something we don’t understand in this fast-moving technological generation.
