This story tries to create a situation in which there's a global water shortage and Forge corporation becomes the only source of water. It would be interesting to know how the author drives the rest of the story.

Water/any resource scarcity, corporate greed, and forced population control are all things that we seem to commonly fear in an apocalyptic or post-apocalyptic situation, but it’s still jarring sometimes to think that some people would still be so desperate to climb the corporate ladder that it would influence huge decisions, not even because it’s truly right versus wrong.
Those are the wild cards that make the story interesting. Thank you for the helpful review.

I love stories like this, that projects a possible future. I can imagine a future where water is monopolized as I'm hearing some things about trading water as stocks. The book mixes dystopia with adventure, and that's a tantalizing concept any day.
