If you are a fan of well-written books, an intriguing storyline, fascinating characters, and up for sn adventurous journey, then this is the book for you. We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is an introductory book that initiates us to a country called Voulhire. It lays the foundation for the other books in the series. It is a story that predominantly explores the theme of freedom. We follow a young man, Galen, who moves to Voulhire to inherit his uncle's business. He has to acclimate himself to this seemingly odd country having come from a war-torn nation. As he sets about being familiar with the land, so do we, as the story is narrated from his point of view. There is also King Wilhelm, who constantly yearns for peace away from his stately duties. The main antagonist's (Lord Meldorath) greatest wish is to freely reign over both the Caromentis and Cosmos (the magical and physical worlds respectively). Lord Eldus wants to serve his people to the best of his ability, with no political interference or reservation.

The author alternates between narrating from his point of view when focusing on other characters, and that of Galen Bray in chapters focused on him. This was particularly useful since Galen's journey embodies the title of the book. As he arrives in Voulhire, the reader gets an unbiased view of this new land. Everything is an introduction to him as well as the reader. A technique that reduces the overwhelm that often accompanies a reader at the beginning of a book.

The author does a great job of creating vivid descriptions. He leaves nothing to chance. He also includes a map of Voulhire and an online glossary for the reader's use. Which is one of the things I loved about the book.

Readers who love long series are in for a treat with the We are Voulhire series. There are nine books for fantasy lovers to sink their teeth into. Those who are not particularly keen on following the story to the end will be disappointed since most of this book was used as an introduction to the series.

I give it a rating of 4 out of 4 stars because it hit all my buttons. I found nothing to complain about. The book was professionally edited, with no errors and formatted to perfection. I found some profane words, which would eliminate young readers. Still, this was a superb story. I can't wait to start on book two of the series.

This one is a good premise for the series even despite the abrupt ending :) Thanks for a great review!

Thank you so much for your comments. It was a good one. The abrupt ending just makes me itch for book two.

I also had lots of fun exploring this book. The characters, the kingdom and the magic was epic.
