We are Vouhire: The Fires Of Virko by Mathew Tysz
As the story begins we are introduced to the city of Virko. Unlike in the first book which focused on events happening in Hillport the story here focuses on Virko and the ominous events that unfold there. Galen and his two friends Rowan and Demetrius head out to Magnus Caelum and soon find themselves amid very interesting unfolding events. Magnus Caelum is a very important asset to Voulhire and it is because of this it has several enemies.

When Galen and his friends arrive in Magnus Caelum they find themselves in Lord Venden Hrelek’s mansion beside the old man’s deathbed. He asks them to look after his son who after an unfortunate number of decisions ended up encountering unfavorable events and making new enemies. Lord Venden is a person who loved his city very much and he worked tirelessly and selflessly to make sure the people of Magnus Caelum had a sustainable life even down to his last days. One of the things he did was push for an agenda to give over the government of Magnus to the merchants and entrepreneurs which would, in turn, make it a capitalist society. Lord Venden believed that this would be the best approach as things moved forward to make sure that the people of Virko would have a sustainable future.

However, not everybody agreed with his agenda and sought to destroy it for various reasons. Because of this whole situation, there was a lot of political tension in Magnus Caelum. Regardless Lord Venden and the people who supported him and believed in a better future for Virko continued to push for his vision to become a reality. Will they be able to save Virko or will it drown in violence and bloodshed? You’d have to read the book to find out.

This is the second book in this series and I have to say I’m impressed with the author for keeping the story interesting. Even though they were different storylines the author still manages to keep the storyline interesting. The events in this book also unfold in an interesting way which keeps the reader wondering what will happen next. This book kept me hooked from the beginning to the end.

I enjoyed the pace of the book. Everything unfolds at a reasonable pace right up to the end. The author also describes the events vividly and the reader can picture it in their heads. Even for the really complicated scenes, the author manages to keep the language simple and easy to understand. This is one of the ways one can gauge if a book is really good. The book also has some strong dark themes such as politics, death, rape, sex, and the use of black magic. There are some good themes such as love, friendships, and forgiveness. I did not dislike anything about the story. It was well written and well-paced.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars as it seems to be professionally edited. The grammar was also good and I did not find any grammatical mistakes. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a good action-packed fantasy series.
