I liked the series. I liked how the author gives you several perspectives but still manages to have the overarching story flow smoothly from story to story. The books are a quick read since they are actually made up of several short stories rather than continuous novels.

I appreciated the character development which is the most important aspect of any book series in my opinion. Also, the storyline is unique and the underlying mysteries will keep you hooked. The Wool series is a definite page turner. If you are looking for a futuristic, post apocalyptic setting without gore or horror then this series is for you.

I think it's well done. Post Apocalyptic man has lived underground for so long that there is no memory of living any other way. Mankind, as always, degenerates into a mindless mass, with a 'this is the way it is attitude' and anyone who tries to think differently, threatens the norm.

I've read Wool and liked it. How are the other books in the series (Shift, Dust)?

this is one of my favorite series of all time aaaaaaaand I hear the rights for a movie or tv show have already been picked up so it could possibly be turned into something visually amazing in the future. I don't even want to tell you what its about in case of ruining anything. But I highly recommend this entire series to you. I just made my sister read it and she finished the whole series in like a couple months! Howey is an amazing author and what makes this series even better is knowing he self-published because no one was willing to take a chance on it and it ended up being this big HIT. It is a very long read and has its slow parts but the whole story is genius! and it really makes you think about people in terms of doing the right or wrong thing. I also like how it touches on certain aspects of technology that we are starting to get into now in reality which makes the story so much more realistic seeming then sci-fi-ish.

definitely check it out! and let us know how you liked it! :)

This series is great! I applaud this book for having a mature perspective of a post apocalyptic or dystopian universe (where the current trend in this style is more young adult).

I have finished the book and found it lacking! The first and second stories were great, but the other stories were boring and repetitive. I rate it 2 out of 4 stars.

Bear with me on this one:
Science fiction and fantasy can be defined, on its simplest terms as hypothesizing a change to the world everyone knows and then exploring the implications of that change through the perspective of the story.

In the case of Wool, the hypothesis is something very simple for many readers to wrap their heads around. An apocalypse has forced the last of humanity to survive underground. We're all familiar with the concept. The industrial revolution brought a substantial number of science fiction and fantasy that speculated that the state of workers would continue downwards and darker.

But here's where I really keyed in: Instead of the reprehensible conditions of society degraded to an abomination of its basest level, everybody in Silo 18 is doing fine.

The inevitable overarching conspiracy does rear its ugly head to allow for the exigence needed for the protagonist to rise to a crisis. However, familiarity with the surroundings, understanding of the conventions and design, and really the capability to envision the depictions of the book lends substantially to reading just about anything. Because it was so well written and thought out for how that hypothesized change to the real world would pan out, especially in the long term situation presented in Wool, I became invested in the Silo and enjoyed the book all the more.
