Only If For a Night was written by J. Alfed and published in conjunction with J. Alfred Publishing. It takes place in a medieval time period where kings and nobles rule with a hierarchy. It has seven chapters, that go back and forth between Silas and his wife Grace, and it ends with an epilogue. I have rated it 2 stars on my own opinion after reading it.

Only If For a Night begins with two kings who are brothers, Christopher and Xavier in a fight for the throne. They start the fight talking but it abruptly turns into a fight until Silas, an assassin, comes in to help one of the brothers. After the fight, the winning brother is given the right to the throne but was unable to take charge at first. Later on in the novel, the new king has begun his reign and rewarded Silas as promised. Meanwhile, with Silas' story, his wife, Grace, also has her story told. She was left at home while Silas went off to war, but after the new king took over she was taken to Silas in the capital. The book ending quickly with Grace being sent away, by her husband, to take watch over another small war.

I liked the concept of the book. I enjoyed how it was based in a medieval type time period and contained snippets of battles for a throne while including explanations of the characters' personal lives. However, I did not enjoy how abruptly the book began. I felt like I was thrown into a conflict yet I had no idea what started it. Also, the novel was very short and seemed to be all over the place as it switched between characters so abruptly and the time frame the book was in was very confusing. Also there were numerous spelling and grammar issues throughout the entire thing.

I rated the book at 2 out of 4 stars because while I did not particularly enjoy it, others may like how it was written. To me everything was confusing and jumbled together. I do however thing that the book could easily be improved by adding more details so the characters can be more easy to relate to and so I am able to follow the story line without being so confused. Also, the novel was very short, so adding more to it may be very simple to make it a much more enjoyable read. I did not give it a rating of 1 because of how easily I think it could be improved. I also did not give it a 3 because so far it is written quite poorly and is too hard to follow completely.

After finishing the epilogue, I feel as if another book could also easily be written. It sets a sequel up very well and I believe it could be very enjoyable if written with more detail than this first one. I wish the author best of luck because I believe they have talent in writing if they can expand the story line to be more easily followed. Thank you for the chance to read and review Only If For a Night.

I have never been a fan of flashbacks or jumbled characters. I don't mind surprises and twists, but, loose ends make me angry.
