"I barely remember the time when I lived without war. I was little when it all started."Says Galen the main protagonist in the first book of the series by Matthew Tysz ;We are Voulhire A New Arrival Under Great Skies. Twenty years of his life in the lands of Princes, Galen had known no peace for hurt, death, and starvation had crowned his life. When an opportunity to flee from his land set in, he didn't hesitate. He made his escape to Voulhire where vast wealth accumulated by his estranged yet great uncle awaited him. From starvation to riches, he couldn't believe it. A great transition in his life took place for he arrived under a great sky but first, he had to learn forging. How did it go? Was this the real success or just the beginning of it?

Voulhire kingdom is such a united, prosperous, and religious kingdom. Feasts are highly regarded. It's experiencing economic success associated with its king, Wilhem Arcolo, and his predecessors. On the other hand, political success and stability are not a celebration here for a long time feared enemy, is determined to bring Voulhire down. What plans does he have? Does he succeed in his conquest?

Character creation and introduction in this book are amazing. My favorite being Rowan, a light-hearted man, the executor whose efforts made Galen Bray reach Voulhire. Just by a coincidence, he meets Galen at a tavern, they become friends so fast. This is how he is introduced in the story and I found it tactical and creative. Through such a character introduction, events are so intertwined and interconnected that the storyline runs smoothly and seamlessly. Besides, I liked the friendship between Galen and Rowan. It's a great one!

The impressive map at the beginning of the story, is a key feature that aids in understanding the landscape of Voulhire as it remains painted in one's mind throughout the read. A glossary at the end of the book too, can not go unappreciated. The first person point of view, makes the narration fascinating and easy to relate to the emotions of characters especially Galen. It makes it simpler to journey emotionally with him from the point he's at the dock to Voulhire, when the ocean currents are unfriendly and he's starving until when he arrives and sheds tears upon meeting Rowan, the executor who treats him kindly yet a stranger.

This a short fantasy genre novel that has 268 pages. Having found neither a major dislike nor a grammatical error in this book, I gladly rate it 4 out 4 stars . I must admit that I enjoyed reading the book. I look forward to experiencing such enjoyment in the next book of the series. I recommend this book to any lover of fiction and fantasy novel. It will be worth your time.
